Topic: Network Unreliability

Every evening and all day on the weekends, my network gets really bogged down and I'm fairly certain it's just my crappy broadband service unable to stream the steady networking requirements needed for teeworlds. I should probably take a look with wireshark to see if packets are being dropped (I'm guessing they are), but my gameplay is hugely affected. The game just starts stuttering and I'm all over the map. It's near impossible to play and I was curious if there was any sort of solution teeworlds has to combat this problem.

Re: Network Unreliability

Teeworlds or any other network application can't do anything against networks with high load. The situation you describe suggests that  you have problems when many people are at home and use their internet. Are you sharing your internet connection or network with others? Maybe because of other users your network load is high.

Although you shouldn't lose any packages. If you do it would be interesting where they get lost.

Another possible situation is that you upload at these times something like videos to youtube. That could also make your game lag.

I hope this helps.

Re: Network Unreliability

Thanks for the reply. I still get stuttering even if I have no other application using the internet and I am literally the only one on the cable running to my house that I am connected to. It purely comes when the network load in the area is high in the evenings and on the weekends. I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Thanks anyway though.

Re: Network Unreliability

This aspect is interesting too. When you are in a high-rise building with several flats and several WLANs you may have a problem with a high load on the frequency.

If possible you should switch to the 5 GHz frequency. If that is not possible you should find a free channel. There are multiple channels available for WLAN. You should check which ones your neighbours use and should use one which isn't used by others.

There may be some limitations of the channel usage by your local authorities so please check that first before you switch to a channel which you may not use!

Nope, I am wired.

Re: Network Unreliability

Have you high pings to other servers too? Does YouTube or other games or streaming websites lag when teeworlds does?

Re: Network Unreliability

Nope. Only teeworlds. And I reiterate that it's not a lag issue, it's the game that seems to stutter. At times the character just starts moving itself. I'll be moving in one direction and then a second later as if it's catching up, I'll be in a completely different position.
