Topic: [MAP] dm_sur1 - for 1v1s

The death traps on this map are supposed to enrich gameplay by making the positions with important items harder to use and the items more risky to take.

Gametype: DM with up to 6 players, but I prefer playing 1v1 on it

Version: 0.2b (just a slight change from 0.2)

If anyone wants to change this map to their liking, then do so but I would appreciate if you left the "MADE BY PURLOX" visible in the map.

Haven't played it yet, and I'm a little bit suspicious on what that much death tiles would impact the gameplay, who knows, maybe it will turn out great; but there's already something I can criticize: I feel like the center of the map - the little platform with two hearts - is way to vertical and slim.

Overall, it's still a pretty nice map, way better in my opinion than the one we used to see on this subforum. :)

I think you should wait with the criticism until you play the map. And after you play it, could you expand more on what you think is bad on it. (Because just saying something is too vertical and slim without saying why do you think so, probably won't make me change that part of the map)

Made a video about that but the audio part is quite messy unfortunately, so you either manually start the audio and the video separately, either... well not quite easy to explain without the game behind to show you.


I've tested it, and imo - this needs to be confirmed by someone else - it's already quite hard to have a decent speed in the middle, it gets really toff to grow up that slim ramp.

Some good other point I've also noticed while playing is that even though the grenade launcher is quite OP on that map because of it often deviating your path into spikes, you've put them in places where it's hard to get to and that offer no positionning advantage, so yeah, I like that.

Even then I would like to see the video (and hear what you said about the map).

I forgot to say one important thing: I usualy play with the katana turned off, so I'm not sure if the place I gave it good or not. So I would like to hear your feedback on that.

Another advise - maybe more of a detail - I may tell you before testing the new version, is that you should always put the player spawns 2 or 3 feets in the air (give a look to all the official map, they do respect the rule).
The spawning on Teeworlds - especially in 1v1 - is nothing random, and it quite helps avoiding spawnkills.


After playing it: another detail I have to mention: you need to fix your high detail option on doodads. I'm seeing way more stuff than I should on "low details".

It's quite more dynamic now on the bottom, you can travel from the left part to the middle quite easily (not a criticism, just noticing).

Another point: I used to always respect the "noobie rule" on my map, meaning that you can access every part without using the hook, only double jumping. The middle is by far not passing the test, I tend to still get a bit stuck on it (yeah, I'm quite annoying), but I'm not very skilled in moving, and maybe other players would disagree.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to have some matches on that map, since it's really easier to judge it when we do multiplayer on it! :)

Changed the spawns, although I don't understand how can you get spawn kills, because from what I have seen so far the spawning algorithm tries to spawn you away from enemies if possible. Hopefully made the textures high detail, although they always seemed fine on my screen. And I moved the platform in the middle only one block down, because moving it so down, that players could actuly double jump on it, made it too low imo and it didn't feel right.

If you want to play a match on that map, then look throught the servers. I sometimes host a server called "1v1 fun" or "1v1/1v1v1 fun", where I usualy test this map.
