Topic: How host a server?

Boys want to create a server teeworlds and I already know how to do it ... just that with Fastweb can not open the doors so I can not put it online ... (But I'll do when I change connection)
What interests me is to know as the host so you do not have a lot of ping 2 people as they enter, which is very bad for them and then leave immediately.
I know you can do because I spoke with a German who became the server and told me that I had to get a few ping hosts, but I do not know how to do it and he does not want me to explain ...
(I want to host as if you leave it open in your router as I already said I have just come a little table a lot of people ...)

P.m. I said only to use filezilla''''(I do not know what it is)
I hope I know how to help

Re: How host a server?

If I understand correctly you want to make home hosted server with good ping. Most home inet providers sux. Home inet isn't prepared for hosting servers so most people, especially not from your country, will have quite high ping.

If you want to host a good quality server, rent a VPS.

Re: How host a server?

ok ... thank you for your answer but can not be hosting the server for free?

Re: How host a server?

To tell you the truth, I absolutely don't get what you are trying to get help with. Please try to rephrase it.

Re: How host a server?

What do you mean? You mean, you do not understand what I mean?

Re: How host a server?

@ghost He is complaining about a high ping, due to his low upload-stream.

You won't be able to "fix" this, without getting a better internet-provider.
Of course you still can host a "free" server, but it's only worth for lan games (or you already got a good upload-stream (you can check this with websites like My-Speedtest.com)).

Re: How host a server?

but it is not interest me much, knowing the speed of my connection ... but I wanted to know if you can hosting the server for free without having a lot of ping smile
(and it's not that I have learned a lot about what serves the site you gave me)
you can explain it better?
but thank you anyway big_smile

Re: How host a server?

What you want to do is possible...
Your connection definately isn't as great as a dedicated server to rent would have, but with a few tricks you might be able to run one without lags. Best thing would be if you take any old computer and install Debian 6.0 minimal on it. This operating system doesn't require a good computer and doesn't have too many processes running in the background. Especially not ones that take up all of your connection.
Then you just configure you server on there. I wouldn't let more than one server run on it.
Then you should try to connect it to your router or modem by a LAN cable as that is the fastest possible connection to it.
Also it would be a good idea not to have any other computers running at the time the server runs.

Re: How host a server?

Anyway, if he has a 50 bit little-village upload-stream, it doesnt matter if other programmes are running in the background...
Thats why i posted the link :\

(But of course your hints might help)

Re: How host a server?

But if I install Debian 6.0 on an old computer you have to open ports on the router? and then I wanted to know if it's the same thing .. I mean if after this, once they get 3 people  in the server have a lot of ping or we have no high ping?

Re: How host a server?

Yes, you will still have to open the ports.
It could of course be that it will lag, but there really is nothing else you can do with your home connection. Just live with it or buy yourself a dedicated server.

Re: How host a server?

ok thanks ... if you later find a way to not pay me know smile xD
because i don't want pay...i've sew and  must pay 20€ mpontly o.O

13

Re: How host a server?

There are cheaper offers. I host several servers and pay 5€ per month, I think that's acceptable.

14

Re: How host a server?

but pay 5 € per month for 1 server or pay 5 € per month for all servers you want?

15

Re: How host a server?

I pay 5 € for a vps, you can host as many servers as you want, it's only limited by bandwith and ram and cpu.

16

Re: How host a server?

Bandwidth isn't a problem for teeworlds.

17

Re: How host a server?

It can be, if you are running a whole lot of servers. But I agree that memory and cpu are probably the limit. However, I don't even get anywhere near that limit with running 5 teeworlds servers and some other stuff on that vps that i pay 5€ for (I don't know right now, how much ram and cpu power i have).

Re: How host a server?

Just to answer, if you want to host a server on your personnal computer and allow other player to have good ping you need to have :
- SDSL or fiber connection, otherwise, forget about it smile.

Re: How host a server?

Actually I was able to host 1 decent working server on my home connection (upload speed ~ 1Mbit/s). It was ok, but with my vps it's even better now.
