Topic: [IDEA] Player authentification using RSA

My idea is to authentificate players that are added to the friend list.
When you add someone to your friend list, you get his public key (or he gets your public key) and using it your client can somehow check if a player with your friend's nickname isn't a fake.

ps: small question here: does my english seem bad to you?

It'd work, but I think it's not worth the effort.

PS: Besides capitalization I didn't find any mistakes in your post, however I'm not a native speaker either.

Something similar has been discussed before.

("authentificate" is not a word.)

Re: [IDEA] Player authentification using RSA

It's not the same, this time it should be used in order to determine whether someone else is a friend or just a faker, this would work in my opinion.

I do not think it's worth the effort, but it's a nice idea.

Re: [IDEA] Player authentification using RSA

There will be a simpler way of player authentification with the account system.
Also, you would need to have the IP of your friends, what you are not supposed to know.

A global account system that would work for every server will require a serious processing power.

Players may exchange public keys through server

Re: [IDEA] Player authentification using RSA

we are currently using api tokens for authentification for teerace. It works pretty well. We also tryed to use RSA to encrpt the data but it was kinda too much.
But using RSA keys for each user is not the correct way to do this i guess

uptee - a simple web interface for hosting and maintaining teeworlds servers
teerace - a website gathering results of trusted Race-mod servers providing global ranking and statistics
