Topic: [INTERIM STATE] Tileset

Hey there.

I'm currently working on a new edition of one of my old tilesets.

It's not finished yet and it may take yet some days before i'll release it, but here is a small example of what i've been working on.

http://i51.tinypic.com/2s9ohow.jpg

That thing that looks like a banana was supposed to be a pillar, but it turned out to be a little too crooked.

Anyway, i know it doesn't show that much, but maybe some of you could give me some advise / criticism / whatever. What's good, what's bad, what could i add?

So long,

Re: [INTERIM STATE] Tileset

Hey Benutzername smile

Well, I like the bricks in the background smile But maybe its to easy to see the breaks in it (when the new tile begins)[Hard lines]. But its a lovley alternativ to the generic unhookable tiles in bg.

I like the 'banana' thing as well. big_smile It looks cute big_smile Kinda like a sabre.

But i dont like the boxes in the left corner. They dont look nice and i dont know what they are for big_smile They r just to simple made. Why did you color them? I think the green tone dosn't match the atmosphere at all sad
And the quadrangle in the middle of the pic look like a more or less modern lamp in ugly offices xD

I don't like the maintiles either.
Its just too simple made, too.

Atm i dont know what to add but ofc there must be added smth big_smile
But all in all nice work smile Keep on tryin'.

I'll edit this text if i got an idea what to add in your tileset big_smile

Greetings
Theolol

Re: [INTERIM STATE] Tileset

Thanks for your answer. I' still pretty unsure whether i keep the banana / sabre / pillar.  Time will tell i guess.

The boxes (green and beige) are the normal tiles. It was more like a test of the corner tiles (to see if they match) - so you wont have to create these squares ingame (unless you want them of course)

I made a few of them green because i thought a simple beige-grey tileset would be a little dull. I will stay with them though because i think they look good when they are used in aerial maps for which this tileset is mostly made for.

Anyway, thanks for your criticism. smile

There are some thinks you dont see in this picture (Unhookables, Windows, Archs, Scripture) - I will show these later if i'm happy with the way they look.

Small update. ;-)

I'm still a little unhappy with the unhookables though.

Changed things:

* It's harder to tell the transition of the background tiles.
* Normal tiles have a brick structure now
* Green tone has been changed

And some small things.

As always, glad for every criticism.

Re: [INTERIM STATE] Tileset

i like the tileset but you have to work on it and make much changes and i think you sud make the "green" lines into "darkishbrown" that will fit much more with the others.
keep working on it goodluck <3

Re: [INTERIM STATE] Tileset

Hey man, it's looking not bad; I just have a few suggestions. I think the amount of texture here can be visually distracting, especially since it is tiled. If you look at the default tiles, you'll notice they have mostly flat colours. A lot of these maps can still add texture through little details, like the rusty pipes in the desert map or the skeletons in the grass ones. Maybe you could tone down the bricks, and also make them a bit bigger so they're more visible.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Not only does the second one seem to have more texture, but it's less detailed and doesn't look as much like a set tile. The bricks look more irregular and ancient (which I assume is the look you're going for), but they don't have to be covered with texture in every spot.

Just a heads up wink

I need to figure out something to put here.

Thanks for your ideas. I have to say, the concept of yours looks really neat - Although im not sure if i can create something even remotely good-looking.

As soon as i have some more time on my hands, i will see what i can do and if it is possible for me to create a whole tileset like this.
