Topic: An ingame mirror feature

Hello tee(e)s,

I've been thinking about this feature for a long time ago, but never had nor the time neither the motivation to implement it.

The idea is very simple: this feature would simply reverse every graphics, every movement, every shot to mirror the map and gives the player the feeling he's playing in the opposite side.

The advantage of this? I noticed a lot of players prefer to play in one side rather than another one. As the maps are nearly all mirrorable, we could allow the player to mirror the map and play on his favorite side.

Awaiting your opinions,
Dune.

Re: An ingame mirror feature

It seems like a good idea, but I don't think it's necessary...

Re: An ingame mirror feature

I didn't really get it.

In one sentence, just mirror the map, revert everything client-side.

Re: An ingame mirror feature

I'm not sure it's like... faking the game, like it's not real, and not all maps are mirror sided. Even though I play better from left to right, tongue but I still don't think it's a good idea =/

"Faking the game"? Oo
What you see at screen is just one representation of the world the server is sending you. You can choose to print the tiles from the left to the right or from the right to the left. The game isn't real, it's a game.

If you want to try what it could look like, write gfx_mirror 1 while using the Gamer - but there're still a lot of bugs to fix of course.

Re: An ingame mirror feature

I know the game's not real... Jesus... it's just like escaping from the "TeeWorlds Reality"

What I meant was flipping everything around is not how it really looks.

I believe ppl should train and be good on both sides in both ways!

sure man everything stays the same, just the direction that you move changes. Noone else would notice that you did that and doesnt change the game at all, since the map still looks exactly the same. The only thing would be that the flags are changed.

I would not change the team colors, so flags wouldn't change neither.

I know, but still (doh). Well if Dune implements it, he should make a toggle on/of button, not if the mod is: vanilla, instagib... so on, to be automatic. If ppl like it, I guess so. It still seems freaky to me.

Re: An ingame mirror feature

Of course it would be togglable, that's just a detail. Lot of players have a preferred side, so I thought they would enjoy this for wars.

Re: An ingame mirror feature

chat dialog:
player1(team red): "team red please come to the right base!!"
player2(team red): "iam here, but where are you?"

so which is the correct right or left???

I guess red side and blue side, not left or right..

Re: An ingame mirror feature

A very original and creative idea smile

It sounds kind of confusing, though.

It's better for a person to learn both sides of the map, imo big_smile

Re: An ingame mirror feature

Whats when the map isnt symmetric? Will there be any client side protection so this feature will be turned off? New players could get confused

16

Re: An ingame mirror feature

It's not the kind of feature which should be enabled by default, this would just be in the settings smile

You didn't get it. When mirroring the map I do not mirror the team colors (already said it). It means you will still play as a blue player, but you will play in the left side.
And honestly, do you often say "please come to the left base"? Never heard this.

Re: An ingame mirror feature

Are you talking of something that could be included into Teeworlds or into a mod? To me it is pretty clear that this feature doesn't belong into Teeworlds. Now if someone wants to do a mod with this feature, I don't really care.

I didn't have anything in mind, I was wondering if the community would appreciate this kind of feature; but it seems it doesn't, so I guess I wouldn't even implement it into a mod.

Although, I don't understand why you feel it is that obvious such a feature doesn't fit the default Teeworlds client. Could be nice to give to the players the possibility to play on whichever side they want.

That was just my opinion, but I'm probably missing something.

It's in the "Development" section, so I'd assume he wants it in Teeworlds.

It is useless and confusing.
