Topic: Server list not working correctly

Hy community!

Well my server list is full of ip´s instead of names. I can only see about 20 servers correctly with their full info ( server name, players connected, map etc. )

When my mates tell me the ip of the server they are connected to, it takes pretty long to connect but i´m able to connect.

I have Windows XP sp3 and i´m using the latest trunk version of the game.

greets exalkun

Re: Server list not working correctly

You're either using an old version (0.4.x) or have unchecked the "Compatible version" box.
Please check that you have a 0.5 compatible client (will it be 0.5.2 or trunk) and that the above-mentioned box is checked.

Re: Server list not working correctly

Or the port used by the master server is currently used by another app making the server list respond with what so ever the program using the port contacts with, no?

I believe this is a known issue, I don't think it's in the filters, let me dig out the topic smile

EDIT: Finally!!! It took me a while, but here, I'm sure it will help you a lot!

In the final post Kottizen says:

The problem has nothing to do with neither ping, compatible version or whatnot.

Why this is happening is because port 8300 is open, which is the port that the master servers use. However, all other ports (which the Teeworlds servers use) seem to be closed/blocked and therefore the client cannot connect to the server and query it for information about the name, number of players etc.

Very unlikely problem, you should check your firewall, anti-virus program and router to see if there are any security

That's what i tried to tell you in the beginning, but make sure you read the whole topic!

Wish you luck!

Re: Server list not working correctly

thank you for helping

i tried to make an exception for teeworlds @ my firewall , router but it still doesnt work ...

i started to look for the ports which i have to forward but there are none listed anywhere ( documentation, forum ) or i´m just too stupid.

and portforward.com hasnt listed any ports too so i´m kinda screwed

Re: Server list not working correctly

This seemed like about the same problem so i decided to post here.

If the server list "Internet" doesn't work  (shows no servers found) and "Favorites" and "Lan" does (I can connect to servers I have favorited or hosted), is it the same problem?

LAN-Servers don't connect to the master server. To find a LAN-Server the client querys all LAN-IPS (As the servers responses very fast in the LAN) and the servers in fav don't have to be queried from the masterserver. The Client just has to query the server data from the server itself.

I don't know why but I can't see many server too. First I see about 200 servers after some time I get the other 200-300 but there are about 1000 servers online. I tested this with 0.5.2 and trunk in both I get only about half of the servers. But I can connect to most of the servers if I have got the IP-Adresss. Could there be a problem with the masterservers? master1.teeworlds.com is not working at all, its IP-Adress is 0.0.0.0. Could it be that some server choose the bad masterserver to that only people how got the IP-Adresss in Fav can connect?

This happens to me too...I have about like 700 with 1000 players. And I usually connect to master3.teeworlds.com,sometimes with 4,a few times with 2 but NEVER with 1

Re: Server list not working correctly

I have the same problem like KillaBilla, but I just favorited all servers I like to play (ca. 50).
But sometimes the IP changes and that's annoying.
In an other thread somebody said the command "br_max_requests 20" would fix it, but it doesn't change anything.

Re: Server list not working correctly

If you only get a few servers in the list try lowering b_max_requests (0.5.2) / br_max_requests (dev version).
Increasing it only speeds up the server list but is bad if you have a slow internet connection.
In the dev version the br_max_requests default was increased from 10 to 25 which might be to much for you.

The thing with master1 is... there's just no master1, nothing bad. Test if you have issues connecting to the masters by pinging master2.teeworlds.com through master4.teeworlds.com.

Happened to me before. On mac, I don't know the cure. Maybe if mac had a winsock reset.
