Topic: Funding development

Hi, I am strongly considering donating to Teeworlds. The thing is I have a few questions. first, does anyone even get the money or does Magnus Auvinen just get it in his Paypal account. Second, I wanted to know if I get the donor tag on my forum name if I donate. Third, I dont know how much to donate, can somebody please reccommend a value?

1. Don't know o.O
2. Yes but u have to INFORM the moderators about that. Tell them to give u the donor title and when they see that u donated they will give it to u...It's not automatic
3. Donate the amount u think is good: Not like 10000 $ or 1$ but like 50 or 100$......I don't know sad
wink wink wink

Re: Funding development

i think 10 EUR is enough.
if all players of teeworlds donate only 1 EUR every year, Matricks would be rich!!!!!

i suggest you .. don't fund development because it's useless and unNeeded, instead would be better fund my mod development  smile Joke

As far as I know, the money from the donations are used to buy/rent/maintain the masterservers, not to help matricks to get his new sports car :S

The answer depends on your budget. Just ask yourself how much fun did/do you have with teeworlds? Then think about what you could have done instead of playing teeworlds (e.g. watching a movie with your friends, going out with your friends to a pub or playing a commercial game). How much money would you spend on those activities? If your budget is small (because you still go to school or you just have no richt parents wink ) simply donate a small amount. If you keep playing teeworlds you can donate a second time wink

Re: Funding development

this might have nothing to do with it. But you are indirectly supporting teeworlds by having dedicated servers up

Re: Funding development

Yes, you get the title, that others see, that you helped TW foundation.

Re: Funding development

btw. you do not have to inform mods about your donation. Usually matricks will set your rank as soon as he recieves the paypal email.

Re: Funding development

Speaking of donations, I would like some informations about how it is spent, how much was collected, how much is needed to be independent etc. Also wouldn't it be better if the money was donated to a nonprofit organization instead of donating to a single person?

Yeah, you will get it.
You will get it, but it's possible that you will get it not directly after the donate. hmm

I totally agree this is interesting!
There is currently no teeworlds non profit organization, but we could think about founding one.

Re: Funding development

The cash ends up on my paypal which is only used for teeworlds. I have a separate bank account for teeworlds as well. I strongly suggest that you donate atleast 5 euro because paypal really starts to eat a large portion the money if you go lower.

Teeworlds has about 800 euro saved up from donations. I think roughly 1500 euro in donations in total or something like that. Money has been spent on domain registration, server and some expenses during a very early development get together in Sweden (pre 0.1.0).

Current running costs is only the domain registration which is like 20 euro/year or something like that. Server location is hosted by an anonymous party.

The money is available for spending if someone has something good up their sleeve.

Re: Funding development

What do you think about adding Flattr as donation service? 0 A.D. uses it, GIMP.org has over 2K flattrs, I think it won't hurt and for me it's the most convenient way to donate. https://flattr.com/howflattrworks

By the way, you can add a button like GIMP did on a front page and people will discover this way for themselves very soon.
