Topic: Errors when registering server

My server is giving me the messages:

"ERROR: the master server reports that clients can not connect to this server."
"ERROR: configure your firewall/nat to let through udp on port 8303."

I have done a bit of investigating on this port forwarding business, but to no avail.

What could be the problem is the way my internet connection is set up. I have a Speedstream 4200 ADSL2 modem, which I have been told is a router in itself, as well as a Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless router which plugs into the ADSL2 modem to provide wifi in my house. I have tried a few different configurations, but currently I have the speedstream modem (the one that takes the telephone wire, the first in the pipeline) forwarding UDP on port 8303 to the belkin wireless router, and then I have the belkin wireless router forwarding UDP on port 8303 to the computer trying to run the server.

I'm running Windows 7 and have the firewall configured to let through the tee worlds server, and my antivirus program is AVG free which does not include another firewall.

So now I'm stuck. I don't know what's stopping the tee worlds server from working. If you have an idea and could post it here that would be great, although what I could really use is someone willing to go through this with me over skype or windows messenger. Please let me know if you're willing to help. My skype username is Mozza314 and my email for windows messenger is Mozza314 at gmail dot com.

Re: Errors when registering server

UPDATE: I figured it out!

A mod may like to delete this topic now, but this may be very useful for people with the setup I have. The problem was I was using the wrong IP address for my belkin wireless router when setting up the port forwarding on the speedstream router. The wireless router has two different IP address, one which I can use to access it through my computer, and another which is recognised by the speedstream router. I don't know a lot about networking, but I suppose there is a sort of sub-network between the speedstream and belkin routers, and in this network the belkin wireless router has a different IP address!

What I did was plug my computer straight into the speedstream router to take the complexity of the belkin router out of the situation. I then got my computer's IP address through ipconfig and used that to do my port forwarding on the speedstream router. The tee worlds server worked. This eliminated the possibility that some security bs was blocking the connection. I then went back to my original setup but kept the port forwarding settings that had just allowed me to get the server working. The speedstream router then assigned the IP that it had just assigned to my computer, to the belkin router - the correct IP for the belkin router as recognised by the speedstream router, and the tee worlds server worked.

:-D

I gave my contact details in the post above, please feel free to ask me about it if you find yourself in a similar situation.

Re: Errors when registering server

Well. . . this situation has been solved many times before, but maybe this one will appeal to others more than the different topics.. Good job, you got it done yourself wink
