Topic: [mod] FRace

The FRace mod was created by GreYFoX, based on the race mod by SushiTee. The only difference is that freezers und unfreezers were added, so you can call it "pure" DDRace. It doesn't add anything else like cheats and rcon levels. It was created following the ideas of this thread.

Sounds good from first hearing. No cheats and I suppose the style of the maps will be a different one.
I assume there are no rotating lasers and weapon effects in this mod and grenades will hurt.

yes, no rotating lasers, no freezing shotgun bullets, ...
but the grenade doesnt hurt (FRace isnt for short races)

I would like to see these options:

-Players lose health when hit by a hammer or rocket
-An option to play in a group you select yourself. ( this so you don't lose health because noobs hammer u )

With options I mean optional in server settings, so u can also have maps where you don't lose health

I think you can even hit others of your team in most CTF servers without cause losing health. So I'm not sure if that make sense? But if you rocketjump to much in CTF you would die because you hit yourself. Maybe that would make sense here too.

Post your suggestions on a DDRace thread, this one is meant to stay 'pure' smile . Let's don't start with adding all options we would like to see into. It's RACE + Freeze entities. Nothing more.

When joining a FRace server, I will know I won't find anything shitty there, and I even doubt there is atm servers without any of those functions. Maybe some maps do not use laser craps, but there are still 'helpers', admin levels, broadcast spamming etc.

Nope. This is basically just DDrace simplified, without spinning lasers, weird weapons, cheats, rcon levels, w/e - just the original idea of the mod. You can hook others, you can play any ddrace map that doesn't use any ddr specific entities (apart from the freeze tiles ofc), but when you join the server you can be 100% sure not to run into cheats and the such, aka the "negative" side of ddrace.

When setting up a race server, you can use tune player_hooking 1 and tune player_collision 1. Well, hopefully GreyFox changed the default settings, but you still can make dummy drag on classic RACE mod - only freeze tiles will miss you.

unfortunately, i don't think anyone will host this mod... maybe because many of the people playing ddrace have it for cheats or something.. they want thousands of features.

I already have it running with hardcore2 as map (since a few minutes). This map didn't use any special features anyway. It even uses the unhookable tileset. But lot like the gameplay of it. Don't know how many changes would follow to that mod. Anyway you can get a first look yourself now.

I've compiled a version for 64bit linux (server+client). You can get without warranty from here

There are already players on it.

DDRace concept, the freeze tiles, and nothing more. Don't start reconstituting the DDRace mod telling you "oh, this little feature doesn't look that crappy it won't hurt" etc

If you would just play you don't need a modified client. But you need a new client if you would map and use the teleport layer. I think even a Race-Client should do in that case.

Btw... I prefer the sound of FRace when tee hit tee with hammer then the silence in DDRace because it's useful at hammer fly.

On the other side - I think stars over tees that indicate freezing are much more DDRace-noob-friendly. If you played DDRace for a while you should even know without them how far you have to pull out a tee of the freezing tile to get it unfreezed. So I think it's no must have and if some hate it...  But somebody that didn't play DDRace before playing FRace maybe would wonder afterwards. If you don't know from what I'm speaking about take a look at the platform in hardcore2 where many noobs pull tees just onto it (instead of hammerhit them first to unfreeze them and give them the chance to hook upwards quick). It's not so difficult to free even that tees if some is swinging below the platfrom and hook carefully the tee from the platfrom above to it's outer edge. In normal DDRace you know fast when the freeze-zone is left. In FRace you have to guess. After 3 seconds you even know in FRace if it was far enough.
