Topic: Lag / prediction time reset (Winter themed maps?)

Hi!

I seem to be getting really bad lag (almost) exclusively on winter maps.

P.e. even after a game of ctf5 without any lags when the server switches to ctf2 (it was 2, was it? "christmas theme") I run around a bit and suddenly It's unplayable. This happened to me several times. Most of the time, it seems to be getting especially bad as soon as I reach the place just below the outer / "long" way up to the flag and try to grapple up there.

Tried some DM too - don't know how many different maps were fine... Then the first winter map (dm8?) and there it was again - warping around like crazy. At times, it almost looks as if this would be connected to some of the (or a distinct) decorations in the map, but then again, that and the whole "winter theme idea" could just be a strange coincidence, didn't try around too much yet (edit: confirmed a lot of times now, if this is coincidence it's far faaaar beyond winning the jackpot in lotto by now wink).

Getting "prediction time reset" a lot whenever that happens... ping doesn't seem to change (getting 60-80 almost everywhere, all the time)... using Teeworlds 0.5.2 x86_64, network connection seems fine, all resources of the machine too.

Any ideas where to start? (Do the "server people" here usually mind seeing strange manual requests of all sorts in their logs? I suck at Internet related stuff, for some reason I'm always way too "noisy" when I try. If I ever figure out, who those "w00t-guys" are, I'll invite them to a self help group *g*).

Edit: Mmmh, I recompiled and tried some more servers with ctf2 / dm8 - It seems to start as soon as I reach the (other / enemy) end of the map. Hopping around in the center area of the maps worked fine for a while. Deleting my map folder (+ getting the ones directly from the server I was trying to play on) didn't change anything...

Thanks!

Re: Lag / prediction time reset (Winter themed maps?)

Hello,

Your computer is probably lagging when trying to render animations like the snow from ctf2 or dm8... did you try to delete high detail ? It's simple, but can work.
Settings > Graphics > uncheck "High Detail" box.

Not Luck, Just Magic.

Re: Lag / prediction time reset (Winter themed maps?)

edit: Sorry, what thing uncheck? Do you mean gfx with graphics? I've got a "gfx_high_detail 1" which I set to 0, that did not change anything for the better - still the same problem... or if you're piping around stuff, I don't understand what and where - what shell do you use?

Is it coherent with this theory, that I don't get the lags while I'm spectating? Don't unterstand how the client syncs and what the message I'm getting means. I'm going to try out later if other graphics-adjustments do anything good (edit: no, they didn't), hope someone can first name a few more "winter maps" for me so I don't have to annoy the same people all the time joining & quitting again big_smile

Anyway: as already written, my resources look fine while I'm getting this lag. So if this is in fact related to graphics, I can't find the bottleneck... graphic card memory & gpu look fine, temperature ok, ram ok, cpu's aren't too stressed too... number of network connections well below limit... upstream & downstream too... also I ran the game from a ram partition to see if my HD maybe has some weird parts that cause the problem. And setting nice to dangerously low & high values didn't seem to make it better or worse. But I'll try closing a couple of X-Servers later as soon as I don't need those any more and log out some users (edit: that didn't help), although I think the teeworld user is the only one that has access to the graphics card ATM... weird...

What else is the difference between ctf2+dm8 and all the other maps that I've been playing on (ctf5 and a lot of dm maps that aren't winter)?
