"secret paths" suck!

Antoine de Saint Exupéry: It seems that perfection is reached not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
Besides -  I am the gfx guy!

Re: [MAP] Super unit's Maps

I had a look at the map CaveBattle.
Graphics: One static background-layer, one for main and one for doodads. This looks really boring and the red background is weird. Have a look at the standard maps if you want to know how to make better graphics. By the way, the doodads you can 'hide' behind are buggy, look how they are attached to the ground.

Gameplay: As said before, secret paths suck. Places where you can camp imo aren't good, either. The ways are too small so you cannot pick up and keep any speed. There are too many weapons, it looks like you will have full ammo all the time. The hearts and shields on the other hand are too few/badly spread. Don't make like 3 places where you can fill up your health, make lots of places with 1-4 hearts or shields.

Other: Half of the map is only a copy of the other half, like it or don't like it. If you want to make any more maps, please choose the gametype of your map before you start mapping. Gameplay depends on the gametype as well. Then please name the map like dm_[name of the map here].
Some screens would have been nice.

2.5/10 for this map as it hasn't got any good graphics or gameplay.

Re: [MAP] Super unit's Maps

Hi.

This is CaveBattle 2.0.

This is a huge map so huge that i had to split it in to 2 part.

There are 2 parts. The left part (For TDM and CTF). and the right part (For DM).

Here are some images (in-game).

Re: [MAP] Super unit's Maps

Here are my new maps.

This file has 2 maps. The names are:

DM_GrassLand
DM_PlatformBattle

Now here is what I rate the maps.

DM_Grassland

Gameplay: There are some platforms to jump on. I placed shadows on the map. This is good for Istagib (IDM And ITDM Only) Its OK for Vanilla but the weapons are not placed very well. So I give the Gameplay 7.0\10.0

Design: I put lots of Doodads and there placed well. The platforms have some detail. There are some good design. I give it an 9.0\10

DM_PlatformBattle

Game Play: I really like the gameplay on this map. Its basicly platforms floating in the air. The map is small but I like it. The sides (top, bottom, and Sides) Have shadows. the shadows have death tiles. This map is good for Air Combat. It supports All Istagib Modes and All Vanilla Modes. This map is also good for CTF. I give it an 9.0\10.0

Design: Now the platforms look good. And it has some weapons (not 10 of them in each place) There are some Health and Armor (not a lot) There are 1 Lasers and 1 Ninja about 2-3 grenades and 2-3 shotgun. I give this map an 6.5\10.0

Re: [MAP] Super unit's Maps

Hey all,
Super unit, just wanted to say don't get discouraged. I just played both maps linked to in your last post; for being small, simple maps that are by nature only going to offer a limited "scope" of gameplay, ie more towards a proof or exploration of concept, there's nothing terrible or unplayable about them. Just keep in mind that those types of maps, where players are looking at and doing the same things over and over, require a lot of refinement to be great.

I had fun playing the platformbattle map. I think the idea is good and could be refined into something pretty interesting, and you're mostly on the right track with how you set up the spacing of the platforms and such to create it. I wonder if having a little more room to run would help rather than hinder the basic concept as well as giving more room for more players. I do think that on a map so small and compact, the advantages and disadvantages of asymmetry between the 2 teams' sides get too amplified. Also, the platform with the ninja in the lower left feels kind of overly cut off from everything else, like inefficiently used space on a map that can't afford it. And I *really* don't like the unhookable tiles that aren't marked at all. It just detracts from the fun, even if you get used to it. Also, I notice you don't extend the shadow tiles on your maps to fully underneath the tiles on top of them, creating gaps of "light." It would look better without those smile.

Again though, don't get discouraged, and more importantly, GOOD ON YOU FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE GAME.
