Topic: [HELP] teeworlds is running very slow

Hello,

I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS 32bit version on my computer and I have downloaded and extracted teeworlds-0.5.2-linux_x86.

Teeworlds is running very slowly. It takes some time to load and after it's loaded, the mouse moves so shockily through the menus that I can hardly get to the the quit button.

When I still had windows on this computer, programs like teeworlds ran fine. I have also run teeworlds once at an ubuntu computer at work. It also ran fine.

What I also tried was disabling vsync: no effect

I think this problem has something to do with my drivers or something, but I'm not sure because I haven't tried any other programs yet. I haven't installed any new drivers since I got ubuntu.

My video card is ATI radeon X1600 pro AGP version.

Does anyone know the solution?

Yes, you have to install your drivers. Ati drivers are not opensource so you won't find them into the repository... you have to download them directly throught their site.

Are you sure that's the right one. Because the terminal gives the following error message when I try to install it:

Error: ./default_policy.sh does not support version
default:v2:i686:lib::none:2.6.32-22-generic; make sure that the version is being
correctly set by --iscurrentdistro

Also, the file's name is "ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run" and I thought I installed a 32bit version of ubuntu. Not 64bit.

And yes, it's the right one. The problem seems to be that the packet given by AMD/Ati is not exactly for "Ubuntu" but for Linux in general. In fact, it say

make sure that the version is being correctly set by --iscurrentdistro

I'm not a Linux freak so I can't help you more than this. The problem is for sure the driver and you need to find the right one... the official must work!!!

I have even tried this

./ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run --iscurrentdistro 2.6.32-22

Now it says that "--iscurrentdistro" is an unrecognized flag.

I also discovered this:

It says that my card is not supported by the fglrx driver and that I have to keep the open source driver.

In other words: I won't be able to use teeworlds with my ubuntu.

Im using the open source driver with my "Radeon Xpress 200M" and the game runs fine, when emulated with wine. Just download the windows build and "wine teeworlds.exe" This is not guaranteed to fix your problem, but it worked for me.

I've tried this, but teeworlds is just as slow in wine. Also your card is not the same as mine and your ubuntu probably isn't either.

I guess my computer's hardware is just to old for this ubuntu. I think I need to downgrade or something.
