Topic: [REQUEST] Make the pure modded server rule less strict

I think this rule is too strict. Only banning gameplay modifications that run as DM, TDM or CTF should be enough to keep Teeworlds healthy and I don't see the real reason why non-gameplay ones should be banned. I think developers should allow modifications that provide things like statistics, better game management, additional security, etc. and don't ban admins for trying to make their servers better. It's not possible to get totally rid of these modifications, because some of them just provide additional admin features and don't advertise themeselves. I personally can't imagine developers cheating and abusing their own game's servers to trigger defense mechanisms.
P.S. Instagib, lost - [xyz] should be a good example of a server improvement. It's a pure InstaGib without bots, takeovers and spam. Why prohibit such nice thingys for Vanilla?

Because if the changes were really necessary, it would already be in the official server executable.

Re: [REQUEST] Make the pure modded server rule less strict

I want keep the rule strict so there are no confusions. No grey zones. There are many people out there that have fixes that they have done. Good fixes. They however doesn't find the way into the vanilla release. I have some reasons why this is. One of the problems is that it's hard to keep track of people, patches, merges etc and the development is kinda disconnected. I have a couple things that I want try out in the near future. Stay tuned for future announcements.

Then you must ban many good servers (like, some Z-Team servers have chat-splash). I know you'll try to implement most wanted things, but what if admin wants something "exotic" that isn't implemented in TW and will probably never be implemented in future (likes clansite/IRC integration, statistics, etc).

I don't agree. I want to know which server is pure and which is not, without any subjectivity from the hoster.

Re: [REQUEST] Make the pure modded server rule less strict

I think you should create "No serverside modifications" along with "Standard gametypes" and make bam to check the code checksum when compiling. That will make less controversy and confusions than the current rule.

Re: [REQUEST] Make the pure modded server rule less strict

Beginner modders will not get banned.

They aren't, they are simply filtered out. I do NOT want to play "beginner modders" when checking that box.

And also they will not pollute the pure-server space.

Then why not just host a mod?

Agree. Your server won't be empty. It will simply be empty from people that don't want to play mods. That's fair.
