Topic: [DISCUSSION] Teeworlds becoming Teegraphics ?!

This whole topic came up in my mind when i have seen TheMessenger suggesting another graphic posterous blog for teePlanet.

To start with  i want to make clear i´m not against anyone creating graphics, you all are free to create any graphics you want.

First of all i want to point out that there is no change in style. I mean all you so called graphic artists out there  try to let your arts look "teeish". But you repeat the same style always again. It almost seems most of you lack of creativity. You copied once the style from some famous artists (e.g. Landil) and do your graphics the same way.
So try some crazy ways to draw tees and get some more different looking arts.
Because same style becomes boring.

Next point concerning Teeworlds graphics are skins / gameskins. You create almost over 9000 skins a week  Please explain me the point of having so much skins in your skin folder if it just causes a longer loading screen. I like customisation at any point but this is just too much and add nothing in particular to the game. Additionally how many people use those skins anyway? I just dont get the sense when having 200-300 skins and there are approxmiately 50 used.

The result is we have here around 98 % graphics which add nothing to the game and are just good for the eye.

My point of view is if some of you graphic artist try to create a bit more tilesets we would probably have more maps. Nearlly all of you focus on skins/gameskins or artworks. There maybe 2-3 people who try to create tilesets.

To sum up my suggestions to the graphic artists out there. When you create new artworks try to vary your style a bit and don´t repeat your style again and again. Try to make something unique.
Create a bit more tilesets and make maps with it. This game is called Teeworlds and it is about all those different worlds ( maps with their different tilesets) and not about a gallery .

Re: [DISCUSSION] Teeworlds becoming Teegraphics ?!

I already replied to this suggestion on teewit, and i completelly agree. Most of the newbies/average artists are only doing arts/wallpapers, which look bad anyway and aee just to look at. second point: skins: we rly got too many of these, and I think, that the time to stop and fall back has come. Gameskins are fine, as long as they are done by a really experienced artist, are teeish ingame and are drawn and not c+p. I, for example, cant wait to see Zatlines unfinished gamskin or the one from tebob.

Marik also had this idea of creating a group posterous for all "artists" (sry my blushing) and let them post their worthy work there. And it might be the only right choise wink Posterous is overfled with nap teeworlds related blogs, one worse then the other. I cant say that I dont do an art from time to time, but  I also help ppl out if they have a problem, or create a banner 4 some clan, or.. .whatever.

My point of view is: less experience gfx "artists" should stick to teeworlds.com: here thy will get the nessesary feedback or get overflamed. There is no reason for every german lolkid to create a posterous and post entrys which dont bring anything.

My blog was the second after Landil, I cant say I didnt get the idea from him, but at least I post more or less qualitee stuff there, and not only needless complicated junk.

That's what teePlanet is for, right there. I should get around to creating some sort of filter some day though, it's on my huge todo-list.

Actually, this forum has since long played out its role as showroom. There is a big problem with the low quality of work here, as for myself, I find the graphics forum worthless, and I barely check it except for reports since the content is so bad. A forum doesn't sort by quality or popularity, so less experienced artists get undeserved attention. This problem is evident in the mapping forum aswell, just not in such a high degree. The best solution is to embrace one of the databases like teedb or whatever they're called nowadays, but I haven't heard much interest in the forums from above, and I'm just a moderator so I can't make any changes either, really.

What kind of a filter? What do you mean? I f I got it right, it should filter the good gfx from the bad. But wouldnt it be Impossible?

edit: Our comminity seems to like quantity more then quality.

A filter that would only show gfx-related blogs, or only code-related blogs was what I was talking about. teePlanet itself is a quality filter, since I only accept good artists' blogs for it.

Create a bit more tilesets and make maps with it. This game is called Teeworlds and it is about all those different worlds ( maps with their different tilesets) and not about a gallery .

I thought like the same smile
In most of the maps around I just see standart tilesets or a recolored gras_main, imo teeworlds really needs more tilesets (e.g. I am missing a nice cave/lava or cave/water tileset). I always have trouble to find nice tilesets for a map, as most tilesets dont provide unhookable tiles.

About the skins: I don't load much of them anymore, they dont look bad, but most look far too human and not simple enough for a tee. And you would have to use at least 500 of them to see everyone ingame.

A forum doesn't sort by quality or popularity, so less experienced artists get undeserved attention. This problem is evident in the mapping forum aswell, just not in such a high degree.

So we should critisize more and harder? Say what we think, not just "Oh, so cute!".

Edit: For me, a tileset is only something like gras_main. Stuff like gras_doodads contains doodads and should be posted as [DOODADS] , backgrounds are still something else.

Re: [DISCUSSION] Teeworlds becoming Teegraphics ?!

There is a number of great tilesets already, which no one ever uses, and a number of great maps, which no one ever plays, so yeah. I basically agree with you, but as long as everyone is playing dm1, ctf2 and ctf5 exclusively, nothing pertaining mapmaking will matter anyways.

Re: [DISCUSSION] Teeworlds becoming Teegraphics ?!

I didn't read everything but I just want to say:
1 year ago I read everything on the forum and in the maps and graphics section. Now I stopped to do so because there is SO much crap and I would have to read 100 useless topics to find 1 good one.
Please people, stop drawing useless things with paint or whatever and open a new "Ultranoob's showroom" every day. Noone cares, this is just useless spam and the important topics get lost.
Same about "upcoming" stuff. Noone cares what shitty graphic or mod _might_ be posted in the next weeks, it's not like I would write it in my calendar.
