Topic: [MAP] Marsh by Jon

http://idzr.org/tsuj
This map is the culmination of several weeks of effort. It is a Ctf designed for about 6-8 players, with no vanilla content and many animations.

NOTE: As with all my maps, the map is under a full copyright. The resources are under a creative commons non-commercial attribution-only license. Have fun!

NOTE 2: The animations on the waterfall may be a little sloppy, but I had a really hard time even getting them to work with the envelopes editor. If you want to redo them, feel free.

I need to figure out something to put here.

Re: [MAP] Marsh by Jon

Your map is realy good, and the graphic of tilesets are also very good.  wink
But your graphic have not teestyle.

The map is a little bit too small, mainly the red base (It is a good place for camper) that is bad. sad

I can understand that you think it is not cramped, but why is it not teestyle?!

I need to figure out something to put here.

Re: [MAP] Marsh by Jon

Yes, the Map and these Tilesets are nice, but as Zatline already said, they don't have much Teestyle!
Your tiles have to many details! Someone told me, that "Teestyle is very smooth and symmetrical. Its also very cute!" And i think your tiles are not that cute, they look more realistic than the Teestyle.

Btw, tiles normally don't have outlines!

Actually, grass)main has many outlines if you look at it. Only the main tiles have outlines on my map as well.

I need to figure out something to put here.

Argh!!! Sorry Jon that i had to say it but i don`t like it.

Here are a few critic points i have on your map.

First of all i will start with the map itself. In my opinion the map is really unbalanced and to small, so perhaps you could make a bigger map!

I agree with crises that the tileset has no teestyle. but there are a few good thinks on it!

Enlighten which doodads are in front or in backround of your tee a mix isn`t good because the player don`t know what is in front or in the backround!

and please use unhookable tiles for the walls on the right and left side!

The smoke effect on the waterfall has a small error!

The Backround is ok (i like the leaves)

All in all it is ok but i have seen better works from you!

Re: [MAP] Marsh by Jon

I want to say a few things here that I should have said earlier. For one, I am certainly not as good with the flow part of mapping as some people are here, and I'm glad for any advice that you have there. I appreciate comments and criticism in this regard.

However, with graphics, I'm going to go right out here and say something unpopular. I think that the idea of "teestyle" has been taken too far and made too specific. It seems there are art police that have arisen who decide on the merits of any graphics based on how much it conforms with the default style. Some degree of uniformity is good, but I think at this point, it has turned in to a requirement instead of a stylistic choice.

I chose my style (minimal shading, more contrast, high detail) on purpose because I think it creates a nicer look and feel than the default maps. I think all map artists should make their style conform enough with vanilla to not look out of place, but at the same time, develop their own unique style within those limits. The dramatic trend towards conformity here, in my opinion, has made this frowned upon.

The artistic choices in this map were purposeful, and I am trying to stick out from the crowd instead of becoming part of a trend that distinguishes itself by its normality. Even if the community is against it, I will try to make my own style.

I need to figure out something to put here.

you should place solid-tiles in the corners too, otherwise you can hook and shoot through it: http://www.image-upload.net/images/u0a1n53beml3zfeepq6_thumb.png
