Topic: [HELP] Need a skinmaking expert's advice ASAP!

I've got a skin that I created of a Wizard, but I'm having some problems with the skin not being positioned properly. No matter what I do the positioning of it is always messed up ingame. If you want to help me out, please say so and I will send you a download link to the SVG file of the skin so hopefully you can find out what the problem is and tell me how to fix it (this is because I don't want people to steal my skins).

i guess you have the wrong dimensions. they shoud be 256x128 px.

The dimensions are fine because you can see the skin ingame, but the alignment of the black part of the teebody and the tee body itself is really messed up. I'll send you the link to download the SVG Landil. Thanks for checking it. big_smile

when you are pressing "export bitmap" (file-->export bitmap, or shift+ctrl+e), there are strange  kolumns in the box that appears: page, drawing, selection, custom. U MUST PRESS PAGE!

I don't use Inkscape's export feature because it makes the skin look ugly, so I'm using Gimp to open the SVGs and save them as PNGs.

i used gimp too when i did my skins, but they were ugly. then i work with Inkscaps now, but i don't know any thing about it.

Follow Lappi's skin tutorial (it's sticky; read all comments) and read the teewiki post

but besides:

1. always use inkscape to create pngs! Use a template of 256 x 128 px and create a 32 px grid for orientation (have a look at the teewiki picture )
2. press ctrl+shift+d and make the background colour black, but 100% transparent.
3. press ctrl+shift+e and export your "side"
4. If the outlines of your skin still look strange use the dilate tool (search the forum)

I don't think you guys get what I'm trying to say. There's nothing wrong with the outline. The problem is how the tee body itself is not aligned right with the feet and arms. The picture shows what I'm talking about. If it was a problem with the outline, then how come all of my other skins are working perfectly? wink

kk i got it. Your problem is that your feet are on the right place, but not the tee's body. You moved it to the right. So move the body and its outline to the left and the feet and its outline to the right - then you will get your desired result: http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/3614/image1on.png

Thank you Landil, you rock! That was the advice I needed to fix my skin. big_smile Also thanks to both you and Messy for the tips about the borders; because when I changed all the borders of my skins to match your advice, they look better. smile

Btw Landil, what happened to the video that you were going to post about the skin advice that you asked my permission for?
