Topic: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Hello everyone,

I'm an admin of our community at http://exoduscommunity.com. We have been running a CTF, DM and TDM server for around 5 months now (Search for [Exodus] to find all 3).
We've developed an IRC bot to relay what's happening ingame, for example, players joining/leaving and ingame kills. (You can check it out @ irc.exoduscommunity.com #TeeWorldsDM, #TeeWorldsTDM, #TeeWorldsCTF)

Our server is located in the USA, Texas and running on a Quad Core 3.0 GHz with 8 GB RAM, so it's good enough for a lag free experience.

Lately, yemDX has joined our forums and put forward some suggestions how to tweak the settings on our servers. This has got us thinking how we can improve our involvement in TeeWorlds, and we figured the best way to find out about this was to ask on the TeeWorlds forums.

So, my questions to you are:
1) How do you think we can improve our current servers?
2) Which mods need a good server in the USA?

TeeWorlds is demanding very few of our resources, so we can add some more servers. Opening more servers of the standard gamemodes isn't worth it, so, as you all probably know this game and the community a lot better than me, I'll leave it up to you to come with suggestions for mods and we'll look into adding support for them.

Thanks!
-Prulez (But feel free to call me Patrick wink)

Finally a U.S.A. sever!
My favorite mods are: DDrace, Bomb and war3.

Give others the respect you wish to be respected with. In the mean time, enjoy the website!

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Thanks for your suggestion wink I'll look into the possibilities of running servers for those mods. smile

It'll have to wait until tomorrow though, I'm gonna sleep now (I'm from the Netherlands, 0.30 AM here) and I'll check it after work tomorrow. smile

Highlight mods you might want to host: Instagib CTF, Zombie, and RACE.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

your ctf server has scorelimit 55, so one flag is WIN. change to at least 500, better yet, 1000 please.

hehhehehehehehe.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Hi all, I'm an admin in ExodusCommunity.com too.

We already changed the limit to 1000 a few days ago, should be alright now

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Okay people, I've gotta go to work in around 40 minutes, but I set up 3 Instagib servers. (CTF, DM and TDM). Depending how how they are being used, we'll see about keeping them running.

I'll set up some more mods this afternoon after work.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

AMN, Thank you for your feedback. We have been running the CTF, DM and TDM servers for quite a while but the playercounts were not more than average. We had some peaks but the games didn't last long, which is why we're looking into expanding, and that's why we're requesting feedback for possible new servers and suggestions for changes to our current servers.

I hope you understand our point of view a bit better now, but I understand yours aswell. We just want to see which mods are popular when we host them and which ones simply don't work. smile

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

I think if you advertised your servers as the only USA based vanilla servers you would get a lot of players, wanting to play vanilla. You could search for USA-based clans and offer them a clanserver, making it possible for them to take part in clanwars, and organizing their own tournaments.

I am really disappointed by the community response to this call of feedback, if I understand properly you want to provide a service with good quality, and want lots of players playing them. In my opinion if you start running just another Zombie, X-Crap and WooHoo-Race mod this will result in mostly european players playing on your servers with high pings, whereas if you run vanilla games, you will get local players with good ping. This game has to set it's foot in the USA and this server is a great opportunity, unless you start running 20 mods before the people have a chance to know the original game. That would be sad.

Good luck with your project.

We will meet again when the flowers spread their glorious scent of victory and the birds sing us the melody of justice...

Thanks for your feedback. Like I have said, we've been running the servers for around 5 months with no particular sign of interest showing from both the TW and our already existing community. After 5 months, only one player (yem, as I said earlier) has joined our forums and that's the only sign of interest that we've recieved. Not that I blame anyone except myself, because I have barely put any time into this.

We were discussing if we should continue the project or shut it down as we still have a lot of things to develop and TW didn't fit the schedule, as the community interest for it was low and so was the activity. If we stopped running it, there would be noone who would miss it. The only reason we've kept it running for 5 months without any sign of interest in it was because it demands very low of our server's resources. Though, the arrival of yem put a halt to that discussion and we were wondering if there's any chance for us to proceed with this.

If you think that proceeding as a vanilla based community would be better than running mods makes me wonder what else we, as a community, can do to attract players, except for the low USA pings. After all, a basic vanilla server is just.. a basic one, with nothing special to make your server(s) stand out from any other. And, as you can see when you open the server browser, the amount of servers is a lot, so we have to stand out somehow to get our name out and make our servers more successful in terms of playercount.

I'm still eagerly awaiting any feedback. We indeed want to provide a good service with excellent quality for USA players like you suggested. You were talking about advertising our servers, but I was wondering where we could do that. This seemed like the most logical start for me, but if you have any pointers for me, then I'm all ears.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

A natural-developement would be to keep the servers running, while advertising the existence of this game to online-gaming communities based in the USA, plus advertising on existing european clan-sites. Then when the game is running with a stable player base for some time, people in the USA will start organizing clans, their sites, more servers and then it is "safe" to provide modded servers too.

For advertising in the USA you can try writing to some websites/magazines that focus on online games, and for the other part - advertising your servers on existing clan sites, I think people here are willing to help.

We will meet again when the flowers spread their glorious scent of victory and the birds sing us the melody of justice...

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Most of the population is NOT USA, therefore, some people may find playing on this server kind of inconvenient. Good work Exodus, now I can play on a non lagging server:). If you would make a more "popular" server (I see you are trying to do so). We must create an American Community.

USA pride. What now.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

I joined your IRC-channel and saw some bot typing messages like this:

09:55 <@TeeWorldsCTF> nnnarr killed the grinch
09:55 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the blue flag was captured by nnnarr (25.55 seconds)
09:55 <@TeeWorldsCTF> the grinch killed nnnarr
09:55 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the red flag was captured by the grinch (12.80 seconds)
09:56 <@TeeWorldsCTF> nnnarr killed the grinch
09:56 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the blue flag was captured by nnnarr (52.70 seconds)
09:56 <@TeeWorldsCTF> nnnarr killed the grinch
09:56 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the blue flag was captured by nnnarr (17.55 seconds)
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> Match started in mode CTF on map ctf2
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: nnnarr entered and joined the red team
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the grinch entered and joined the blue team
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> Match started in mode CTF on map ctf2
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> the grinch: bb
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> the grinch killed the grinch
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the grinch has left the game
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the blue flag was captured by nnnarr (13.39 seconds)
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> nnnarr killed nnnarr
09:58 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: nnnarr has left the game

Then, I joined the server too and it was empty, with just me. None in the other team, no spectator. I got this in the IRC:

09:59 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: Kottizen entered and joined the red team
10:00 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: the blue flag was captured by Kottizen
10:00 <@TeeWorldsCTF> Kottizen killed Kottizen
10:00 <@TeeWorldsCTF> [Server]: Kottizen has left the game

Besides that I didn't kill myself, I released that the server must have been modified.

---

Patrick, I assume you don't know about the rule "no modificated servers running official gametyped". That means, if you modificate a server, you are NOT allowed to broadcast it as CTF, DM or TDM, doesn't matter what you modificate. If you read the top of the forum, it says "Running mods as DM, TDM or CTF servers will earn you a ban". A ban in this case is a ban from the master server, so none will find your server.

I don't want this project to fail because of a ban in the master, so please run a pure server. If you need the IRC bot, insert some client that can act bot.

---

Asked them, grummi, you were right.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

All this information can be gained from the server output/log. It's not necessary to mod the server.

aka cheesy

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

yemDX has told me that 1on1 servers are coming. when?

16

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

1on1 servers might come in the future, can't tell exactly when, but we do have them planned. smile

Also, for the pure server, we did not modigy the gametype. It is normal, regular CTF, but we run a second exe alongside it that parses the server log and outputs it in a modified way to make it easy to read. It's not modifying the server executable, nor is it infuencing gameplay, so there should be no problem at all to run it as a normal gametype.

Last, but not least, when you quit the server, the log also shows you kill yourself. It's just the way the game behaves.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Dear Exodus Gaming Community,

It would be really good if you could take away the time limit of 15 minutes, or at least add a vote option to do so.
Exodus is one of my lowest pinged servers, but I can use my full capabilities in 15 minutes

thanks,
fazer!

USA pride. What now.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Fazer, which server is this about? I'll see if I can add the vote option smile

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

New Exodus server: Assault MOD

http://kottnet.homelinux.net/teestat/stats.php?ip=exoduscommunity.com&port=8300

Assault has 2 rounds per game. On the first round, the attackers try to capture the flag as fast as possible while the defenders slow them down. Once the flag is captured or time has run out, round 2 begins.
At the beginning of round 2, the teams are swapped, and the new attackers have to capture the flag in a faster time than the enemy team did.

Mod by null and Hanz.

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

Hey people,

I'm still eagerly awaiting feedback by Fazer for the vote option. I'd also like feedback on the Assault mod, have you played it? Liked it? Why (not)?

Thanks smile

P.S. The 1v1 server will come online later this evening.

I haven't really played that mod before... But the maps for the mod seem ametuer. Maybe you just haven't had the time to get a mapper, but I could possibly make a map although with my busy new life, it might take awhile. wink

I don't think anyone plays Assault, even in the German severs... but like I said before, I think DDrace would be good since it has become every popular.

Sorry about the wait, I couldn't come on for some times. I believe the one server I am talking about is the server called [Exodus] USA - CTF. Its great for practicing and all but it has a time limit

sorry about the wait,

Re: [COMMUNITY] Exodus Gaming Community wants your feedback!

We've made some changes on the CTF server smile
