What is it?
--------------------------------------------

The TeeWorlds Server Manager ( aka TWSM ) is a free administration-script, written in PHP / mySQL + JS, to start - stop - create ... Server, just using a Browser!

Should I use the TWSM?
--------------------------------------------

If you have a Linux Server System ( created on Ubuntu 8.04 Server, successfully tested on; Debian and Suse ) and you wish to have a WebInterface to manage your Teeworlds Server without using a SSH client all the time you should try the TWSM.

It would not work with Windows!



Is it really absolutely free?
--------------------------------------------

There are two version of the TWSM.

1.) TWSM Light;
It is absolutely (!) free! But only for one admin to manage his server.

2.) TWSM Pro;
Will cost 15-20€ ( ~ 25 USD ), in germany you can pay via banktransfer and PayPal, otherwise just via PayPal!
This version is thought for reseller / sponsors, cause you can add several users and allocate them server.

Detailed view of functions:
--------------------------------------------

1.) TWSM Light:

* create, edit, start, stop, delete server
* upload, edit, delete server files
* upload, edit, delete maps
* statistics ( via CronJob )
* live stats
* pleasing design
* overview of all server and statistics for 'none-admins' ( tunable in settings )
* after installation you don't need any other programms than an Browser ( Firefox recommended )

2.) TWSM Pro:

* all light functions
* create, edit, delete user and allocate them several server to manage by themselves
* automatic server start after (re)boot
* automatic server check and restart of crashed server
* automatic deactivation of expired server



Release Date?
--------------------------------------------

It's done when it's done ;P

1.) There is already a nearly stable LIGHT BETA version.
2.) Pro version will be released as stable, but will be tested by a few selected testers soon.

Thank You very much! This is indeed needed. I already tried it out, but I get get an error when trying to start a server: "An unknown Error occurred ...".... I have no idea, were this comes from....

You don't have to use it - or use the free version, that was totally senseless ...
If someone rent some Teeworlds Server he'll get money too ...

ghost91; shell_exec() isn't forbidden? - look it up in your php.ini wink

No it is not forbidden, I even tested it with an own php script and it worked well there, so there has to be another reason...

You tried which version?
Until version 0.2 the TWSM worked with screen - sometimes there were some problems with the screen rights ...
Now this is fixed - TWSM is now working with 'nohup'.

Or it could be the CHMOD of the server files / configs.
You gave them which rights?

i'm using version 0.27, and I'm quite sure, put the correct rights, but I'll check it again.

//EDIT: Ah, you were right, the reason was that the rights for the tmp folder were not put correctly, thx a lot smile

i've already tested it and it is okay. Thanks for your great effort you are doing to the teewars (sic!) community. I need to calm down as my first version of this post was not postable. It's very selfish to demand money for an administration application of a free game. Many of us put their heart and soul (and of course a great share of their freetime) in this project, much more time than you could think of. If you had announced to donate the money to teeworlds and its development it would have been a great job you've done, but this is pathetic!

You don't know how much time i spent in the game too ... I'm playing Teewars much longer as the most other people here ... since the early 0.2 time, hosted some server and will do this again soon, coded my own mod ( BFH ) which will be released after the TWSM ( I hope so ), did some new functions to scosus ball mod, created the spaceball-league homepage, atm. I'm coding a Teeworlds Avatar Creator for Teeworlds-Community.de ...
I would say I'm more integrated than many of you!

There is a free Version to manage your own servers!
But if you want to sell server - than I think it's just fair if i'll get a piece of the cake ...
Actually sponsors get a special price if I think that their project could be successful.

So guys - if you don't want to pay; use the free version, reprogram smth. like that or manage your server in an other way ... but pls. stop flaming and rate my posts.

I don't have to provide you the free TWSM!
And atm. I'm really thinking about stop providing the TWSM in ( and for ) the english Community -.-

And who said that i won't donate smth.?

Nobody said you won't donate something, but you don't say you'll.
As this is a free game, everybody which provide something do as well.
Sure you don't have to, but don't expect people to be kind with you.

What about people that code for Teeworlds, as devs, people that provide patches, and help others ?
That's not because you made some stuff that you're "more integrated than many of" us.
The whole thing is not about coding eveytime, and even if it was, you sure won't be whom code the more, sure won't !
To take the example of Landil, sure he didn't code a mod, because his thing is graphics;
he made all graphics for nodes, he posted many avatar, ... (for free, btw).

So stop yelling.

Let's try to keep things calm down here. Although it's indeed against the spirit of Teeworlds to charge money for an application, it's not forbidden by law and as far as I understand also allowed by the Teeworlds license (correct me if I'm wrong). It is also a bit early to worry about the Pro release as this version doesn't seem to be in existence yet.

If you can try to keep this topic about the server tool in question, and use some other means of communication to compare eachothers coding contributions then I think that things will turn out for the best.

For example landil, I know him a bit - and he's not one out of the "many of you" - that's why I haven't wrote "all" ;>

But hey - that's not the point!


I just gave you the ability to mange your teeworlds server in an free easy way.
So why is it selfish to get money for a version with whose help some others will earn money?

Will free version be Open Source? Btw. no one will buy your programm for $25, it's too expensive.

Ok the tool is good but...

     I don't see tom charging 20€ for his mods do i? or rajh's popular mods for 50€? more relating to the topic now...

Ok there are enough server managers, but if you want to make one, thats fine. This is a prettty useful tool anyhow, but again with the flaming about buying it. Instead of buying it i'd rather take years to learn c++ and other languages to make it myself.

I think I'm going to write a copy of this, but with some extra features, and totally free. It's awful that you have to pay for a free game.

Are you planning to release a modification to version 0.2? There is none that plays it anymore.

Erm, sorry that I ask, but what exactly is your problem? BadMatt did absolutely nothing wrong in my opinion. Ok, it is not that nice to set a price for a tool for a freeware game, but even than, it's his decision. Also the "light version" was free from the very beginning. And now BadMatt tells us he will give his "pro version" away for free, too. So please tell me what are your problems with him/TWSM. And please stop all this flaming, this is really not appropriate here!

@BadMatt: I still hope you will release pro version soon, don't let it get you down wink

I had the same error, check if the rights for all folder are set correctly (for me it was the tmp folder, which was not set correctly)

ToXiC - you're shure that you've got the newest version?

It should set the CHMOD-Rights automatically ...
( or throw an error with the folder-names you should give the permissions )

I'm sorry that the guides are just available in german ... but you see the reactions of the english-speaking-community in this thread, thank them!
