Topic: [MAP] dm_on_a_boat [DUEL]

Hello everybody, I'd like to present to you a tiny little duel map I've made. This was mainly a practice to get used to the editor and to find out what works and what doesn't work in the game, so that I am ready for bigger maps. Therefor, it hasn't got a particularly elaborate background, nor does it sport a particularly interesting tileset or quads. I think the gameplay on it has turned out to be quite fun, though, so I'm providing this map to y'all now.

externals (I'd like to thank their creators, Zatline and TeBop, for providing the externals at www.teedb.info. I downloaded them named Ship_tw-105_main/Ship_tw-105_door and renamed them according to my personal naming scheme ;-))


At last, if there are any mappers out there with a good reputation (or at least good skills), who'd like to create a map or two for an upcoming TDM-Mod, please contact me via PM so we can work out the details! (Just to be clear: This is not one of those pathetic "I can't do that myself"-calls of a newbie who'd like everything to be done for him, I'd just like to release the mod, which has already a lot of it's features playable btw, so no castles in the air here either, with a handful of maps really fit to it. But if me and my mate will do all of them by ourselves, I'm afraid they might lack diversity. So if you are looking for a "new challenge", please apply!)

This map is really nice!! I like how you use the unhookable and death tiles on a dm-map!! smile

its a good map for your first, but here are some improvements.

the huge double doors, form the screenshot, looked like you couldnt walk through it. truy to make it easier to see where has collisions and where doesnt.

if its a 1on1 dm map, i prefer no death tiles (unless you find a really good way to use it).

try to make more movement room, when you try to swing around and move, you always almost end up bumping into a wall of some kind.

try to improve these, and continue making maps. try to learn envelopes as well as making the actual play area!

The doors are just quads of course, so no problem passing there (you can also see that in the first screenshot). In terms of movement space I tried to imitate dm1 (you apparently haven't even tried out the movement on my map yourself, not knowing the doors are passable). The death tiles are at least put in a place where it makes sense, since they add additional danger to accessing the important position above.

Your feedback is appreciated, though, I just wanted to elaborate on what my thoughts were behind the decisions you criticized.

Ah well, seems like I didn't quite get your point there. Nonetheless I think it's relatively easy to see that the door isn't made up of tiles ;o

if you like the gameplay and look of your map, i'm fine with it. but try to make more, i still suggest you continue.
