Topic: [MAP] ctf_mars
ctf_mars
Okay, here comes a map that's a little old, but since people are wishing to play it on the FunWar tournament, I thought it might be time to release it, and tell my thoughts about it.
First of all, ctf_mars was merely made as an experiment to see if the pro community was so, dare I say idiotic, as I sometimes felt. What I basicly did with this map was to go to ctf2, analyze everything on it, and then make a map that was as similar to ctf2 as possible, without looking like it. This map is as close to a horizontal version as ctf2 you can get, balancewise. To further build on this concept, I started to measure all movement patterns on ctf2, copy whole areas and mask them into the map, I did the same thing with other maps, namely kukurice and I think ctf1. Then, I started to slowly testplay the map with different people who were more or less good ctf players. Instantly, I was praised for creating a map with great movement and gameplay. This actually saddened me, because I think it shows how many people in this community are too scared to try new things and actually challenge themselves to learn new maps, movement patterns or gamestyles. If anyone feels this has opened their eyes (although I doubt it, as I suck at writing things like this) I'd recommend people to try maps such as crossroads, graveyard or ctf_awsum. Anyway, I hope people enjoy the map as it still, no doubt, is a good map.
