Actually it's not because of invisible skins (the client could be modified to check for invisible or near-invisible etc skins). I think it's because of "KISS", and not to waste bandwidth etc
BUT when u upload ur skin on a server (hoster) u can see the images!!! (like in trackmania)
it works there fine! Why not in teeworlds too? and when the image is invisible then the server can take the standart skins and it gives no problems.
u only need the functions:
-check if invisible or not
-check if right format, size
-url function by skin choise (so u dont need to have access rights (open port) for the images on other computer)
and maybe u can download the maps from one internet server too, because it is maybe faster to download them from a url as from somebodys computer.
I hate it when u wait minutes to come on a server!
That must be changed in the next version!
A new suggestion (I'm not sure if it's being worked on , but:)
- A Duel Gametype. It keeps the winner and rotates the losers based on who's waited in spec the longest.
Try to develop this as a custom mod first so it might be easier to implement. // ~{MS}~ Azon

That's not that easy!
When is a skin invisble? You could have just one pixel or make the image almost transparent (1% alpha).
And I bet that people would abuse the feature and use obscene skins.

Using a server URL will do the same up/down speed as a TW server. The only time it would be faster would be if the URL server has more bandwidth, which would probably need someone with a big server, which probably won't be free.

Downloading tee-skins, would be a whole different thing.
When you press tab,(In game) there is a list of tee's, and any with tee-skins that you don't have, would have a [Down-lode] Button under the tee, it would ether look grayed out, (implying that you can't down-lode it), or would be light purple, (Implying that they don't care if you take it).
And if you down-loaded a tee-skin, and you didn't like it, (Not-teeish, too pixely, pornographic) go back to tab, and any of the tee-skins that you down-loaded would have a [Hide]&[Delete] button next to the [Down-lode] button. By the name you probable can tell that once you click on [Hide], it changes the tee-skin back to default; and [Delete] well you can probably guess.
And lastly, when you go to settings, any tee-skins that you don't want shared, just click on the [ ] next to the tee-skin, to make it a check, for share, or X for, don't share.
And lastly when you are a new player your skins will automatically have a [X], you can change it later when you know what it does.

Also, register accounts to play with and add a level and exp system for players to get hooked with.BTW is there already an Asia server in Teeworlds?
If there is non yet, you may add one too because I have friends here who want to play Teeworlds but unfortunately, whenever we play, we have high ping due to our Location (Philippines in Asia.).Thanks
Registration should be good, but not levels and XP.
maps that can double as race maps without death tiles. thats what i want
downloadable skinz isnt totally good idea. Clans are using their private skins, so if anyone will have them it will be not good. i dont like fakers. But if u are able to check the oprion "dont share" to that very skinz it would be good.

What's the point, if the clan members are the only ones who can see the skins? With the exception of frag videos.
@Bee some of your ideas can be done by just modifying the servers and have been done already... good ideas for the client tho.

The point is, that I know some people won't want someone taking there skin.
And some people do, that I thought that was the only answer.

But I have a bandwidth from 32000 kbs...
why is it so slowly to download a map with 200-300 kbs xD
and when I host a server other guys dont load my map realy fast too.

if you are in game, with sounds, and you want to hear music, but dont want to hear the sounds of TW, you have to restart TW, maybe you can make, that you need not to restart, and can switch every time
maybe you can also add a command for the admin with rcon, where he can make short votes: for example he want to change map and make a vote with: change_map ctf4, but without addvote, so that normal players cant activate that vote
Maybe not for the next version, but in these kind of games like teeworlds i like to be able to see some statistics (tee killed, number of self-kill, number of hook missed, accurate, games won/lost, average position (2nd... last..), number of firing without ammo .
And of course it could be seen by other players, but it will be after account implant...
For the moment for CTF mod we could just tell in brackets at the end of round the number of flag/deaths.
I've already suggested the thing with downloadble skins in an e-mail to the developers,
but the arguments agains it are the same as mentioned above,
and I agree with most of them.
But in my opinion the idea that skins are downloaded from the server is good,
because you could already use custom graphics on the map,
so it won't be a bigger security hole as now.
For clans and their custom skins,
an option to turn this feature on/off could be integrated.
But on the other hand,
why don't make a poll for the favourite skins of the players,
and the best ones are included in the next TW-version?
As for me, I really like the skins of The Messenger (Forum->Graphics->[gfx]The Messenger's Teeworlds related Stuff).
I would like it if Teeworlds have a Leveling system just like any other RPGs, and your tee can buy "skins" and "new appearances".
I still like if it has an asian server for me to play lag free.
but that might take away the purpose of the game.
i agree, there should be a GAMETYPE with rpg, wich saves your stats, but not the whole game..
As far as i know, there's already a gametype called "[RPG]".
It requires a registration, but there's an other gametype called "WAR3",
which doesn't require a registration, but also includes levels and so on.
And for the skins, you could easily download custom skins and put it into your teeworlds folder (more exactly: <teeworlds folder>/data/skins).
(But other player would only see it if they've go a skin with the same name in their teeworlds folder,
otherwise they just see the default skin.)

Well allot of people are computer-illiterate, and don't know how and were to put there teeskins. So a down-load button right in the game, seems great to me. =]
I agree with you that a download button in-game would be useful.
Maybe a central skin-server could be set up where you could download skins.
The server could also be used to solve some other problems:
At first the problem with same skin, but different names and vice versa: two players got the same skin in their folder, but with a different filename so that they only see the default skin for each other.
When a central skin-download server uses consistent filename for all downloads,
this problem maybe could be solved (if the skin is on the server).
When an other player has got a skin you haven't got in you data/skins folder,
you only see the default skin.
Maybe there could be an option for the TW-client which makes it downloading unknown skins
at runtime from the skin-server.
erm hey first of all im sry for my bad english.
so i got an idea its just simple and i think its possible for 6.0
just some Breakable walls that you can make with the Editor !
that would be a great thing for new Mods like (Castles) or other stuff smile would be nice if you can change the hitpoints of the wall and the image like the normal blocks and maybe after firing against the wall you could see that the wall is a bit damaged .
