Topic: CTF scores and sudden death

Hi!

I think the scores in CTF should be changed a bit.
In sudden death mode, often the one team that manages to kill the enemy flag carrier, will lose the game because the other team can get the flag back and earns one point for that. Then, the game is over.

This leads to some "not very nice" strategies. Imagine you have the flag and one teammate is at the enemy's flag spot. Then you just jump down into death, the flag will respawn, your teammate grabs it and your team wins.

This is not really fair!

I think the team should get one point if the enemy loses the flag.

If you are often in sudden death in CTF, then you are doing something wrong. This should be an extremely rare situation. Also, you can solve your dilemma by killing attackers before they touch your flag.

We play the game regularly during lunch break at work, often 2 vs 2 only. Sudden death is not rare then, and usually you can't afford to protect the flag. Not letting someone touch the flag is hard!

I suggest you disable timelimit then, it is how most CTF games are played. Timelimit in CTF usually makes players camp in defense when they lead, especially when time is running out. We will not put a penalty for losing a flag (or cancel the +1 bonus, which is equivalent to giving a point to the opposing team) as it is not only a counter for flag grabs (out of the flagstand) but also the only mean of victory in some situations.

However, if you feel you really need this for your lunch-time games, you are obviously free to change the behavior yourself for your server (which I guess you host). Of course it might not be easy depending on your situation but this is the only solution.

It looks to me you play a map too big for 2on2 if you cannot hold someone away from your flag. ctf1 is usually the map played for 2on2 CTF.

Disabling time limit is a good idea, I think we will do that. Thanks!
