Topic: Quick Refresh

Maybe a Quicksearch in the Serverbrowser would be nice.
For example if i want to play with a friend and the server is full, so i want to update just this server, to see if someone left, not all servers. Or maybe if i  want to play on a server which runs ctf5, so maybe you could just refresh the server, which are currently shown in the server browser.

Re: Quick Refresh

im confused about what your talking about but a quick refresh would be nice. I hate waiting so long for the list to refresh.
It should be instant.

Re: Quick Refresh

My idea is, that the servers which are shown (due to filter, quicksearch, etc.) should only be refreshed.
Is it more understandable now?

Re: Quick Refresh

If you know what servers you want to check, you can add them to the favorites. Having two buttons for refresh would complicate the UI.

Re: Quick Refresh

But then I have to add them and afterwards remove them again, much easier would be just to have a quick refresh button and i dont think it confuses the people, if there is a "quick refresh" and a "refresh" button.

Re: Quick Refresh

I vote strongly in favor of Quick Refresh, as seen in the Half-Life and Steam server browsers.

Re: Quick Refresh

With our current solution there is no way of making the refreshing go faster. Right now the client ask the master servers for a list of ip's and ports to the servers. Then the client pings those addresses and gets info from one server at a time (well, actually it's a bit threaded). This means that the initial refresh will take a certain amount of time depending on how fast you get the responses.

It would be possible to create a quick refresh for a specific server, however it would be a little bit harder to implement a refresh for the whole current screen.

It would be possible to ping each server without refreshing the master list, but will clutter the UI with another button. Not convinced. Why not add servers that you're susceptible to play on as favorites? No need to remove them.

Re: Quick Refresh

is there a faster way to do this? maybe there could be a "specific refresh" button which takes the search term from the searchbox spacified as map, player, title, or gametype then when  it searches, it quickly skims through the neccesary info for a couple of seconds then it shows everything at once. because i really hate trying to click a server but i have to wait for the refreshing to stop because all these servers are poping up in between it.

[i dont know how this search stuff works so i made up something i have seen before and implemented into my suggestion]

Re: Quick Refresh

why not just toggle quick-refresh mode with the "shift"-button. this is a feature for advanced users anyway, it would be no problem that a normal user will never find out about this function.

Re: Quick Refresh

@wakka that would be a nice idea.

@Somerunce Well i haven't look through the source, but maybe you could just save the ip's which match the current filter settings in an array/hashtable/etc. and when the user wants to quick refresh just get the information from the buffered ip's.

Re: Quick Refresh

Right mouse button is not used in menu ^^ Click RMB on server to refresh it.
