Topic: [Request] Flashlight MOD

Umm... I got an Idea for a MOD.
Tees should have some kind of flashlight (triangle of light pointing where they aim) and a little light circle arround the Tee. There would be 2 ways to make this:

1. Everything out of the flashlight should be dark - u cant see Tees nor the Map.

2. Everything out of the flashlight is darker - theres a shade of the Map but u cant c any Tees.

U shouldnt be able to c the flashlight of other Tees so u can sneak up behind some 1 wink
Or u can turn on and off the spotlight with /flash or something.
The flashlight shouldnt point trough walls but maybe show a little part of the wall so u can see unhookable tiles for example.

This could be used for DM and TDM - maybe not so good for CTF because flagcarriers are even harder to find.
Maybe also for other MODs
Maps should be a bit bigger than normal Maps so u can hide somewhere.

This MOD would make the gameplay more instant and also a bit scary wink

I dont know anything about coding so i dont know if this is possible - but maybe some brave coder wants to try wink

um the thing is... you cant really edit what the tee can see and the flashlight would be like a new weapon which is what the devs are supposed to make and not the community. Really good idea tho. however you could make a map for it if you wanted where the whole map is really dark so tees cant see. then maybe we can do something.

You can make a darker map like Dino said or just.. A quad layer without detail that's a bit black square with a lighter point in the center so you can see only a bit of the map smile
I think the only thing the mod should do is to change the gamtype so you can see that it is a flashlight server..
So we don't need a mod for it. I think.

No its not because you cant add anything to the game like a flashlight.
But of course if you made a dark map then i could give u a srv with the gametype: flash

When making a mod the modder can only change the things that the game already has eg. rocket, laser, ninja. But they cant add anything else

Its a little bit wrong.
Server modders can only add things which ARENT determinated by client side stuffs.
-> Fire mod is possible as there is just some explosition position calculation.
But telling the client to put some light around the okace where he is poining isnt possible without changing the client, sorry guys sad

I just used my advanced photoshop skills (...nooooot!) to illustrate how this could look like (roughly).
Of course this would be implemented on the client side.
I thought about a zombiemod (role model: left 4 dead) with this flashlight implemented (also mentioned in the other zombie thread). Until now I just implemented the M16 gun.
Any help on this (especially with C/C++ / SDL) is appreciated smile

omg thats a little hard to play right? if you make your surroundings visible but not the tees in the black it would be a good mod. but not that you cant see where your going. or else you have to memorise the map

and noone wants to memorize maps to be able to move quickly around a map. it should be a map that newbies can play too

@Franchan123: it's intended to be hard (or at least not that easy). that's the point with the flashlight. it also gives you the right mood when there's a zombie apocalypse big_smile

but seeing your surroundings but not the tee will be more of an adventure.

with surroundings
*you think there is nobody one around you, you swing, then you suddenly swing past another guy so you turn back and frantically wave your flash light around trying to find the guy. you get a glimps of where he/she is going and you start trailing him*

without surroundings. newbie vs newbie
*you dont know where you are so you swing around clumsily, you see another guy struggling to get around and you both try to kill each other. its not that fun*

without surroundings whatever vs whatever
*you  swing freely around and you see a guy with your flash light. you have a general direction of where he/she is going but since you cant see  your surroundings, it is hard to move fast... you barely ever get a chance to kil each other*

without surroundings
*you see a tee in your flashlight. you cant play very strategically because it is so dark, you might as well be playing in a small room. you go in and hammer as fast as you possibly can*

I know merlin mentioned not seeing the map or the players but that would make this mod a version of stummbling and shoooting blindly

Another suggestion i should make to make this mod better

why dont you have when you get shot, a ghost version or a silluette appears exacly where the shot came from but even if the player who shot at you moves, the ghost slowly fades [1-2 seconds].
this wont have snipers dominate the game and you wont have new players trying to move the mouse as fast as the can round and round the tee to get maximum light. [which would be a pretty stupid mod]

in case anyone is intrested, the game is called 10800 zombies. Its simple and retro but it is super fun and the graphics are really good [just like teeworlds]

@franchan123: thanks for your input man! i'll deal with the details later.

just a quick annotation:
you don't fight against other human tees, just zombie-bots who don't have weapons.
you can outline the survivor-tees so they needn't to be light up.

you never played left 4 dead? you have to smile

so... how does this mod go again? are there red team and blue team where blue team is humans and has flashlights and red team is zombies and they have no flashlights and see everyone clearly and everysecond they hook you, you lose one damage but it takes one laser shot to kill them?

that waould be intense. having tees pop out of nowhere and swing u around while you franticly shoot and they dissapear into the darkness...

Hey.. umm

Actually i wanted ppl to play zombies because tw is a pvp game.
@franchan: its ok if theres kind of a dark version of the world outside of flashlight if no Tees appear u didnt point on.

The Zombies in the Mod shouldnt need a flashlight but can c the world as it was normal - but they just have hammer are a bit slower.... maybe they can just hook all 2 seconds...

In the beginning everybody is human - red
After, lets say, 10 seconds a player is randomly choosed to play as mother Zombie. If a zombie strikes a player twice with hammer he dies (mother zombie just needs 1 hit for the first player it kills) and respawns as blue -> zombie.
Human have normal weapons (cant do rocketjump) with some kind of infinite ammo, but all 10 shots of 1 gun they have 3 seconds reload time where they cant shoot or switch weapons. After reloading the weapon is full again.
Zombies should have full armor and their energy should be stronger so they dont have 20 hp and armor but 40.
By making energy 100% (or 200%?) stronger. Mother zombie should have even more energy because he is fighting alone. In the Maps zombies should respawn on some platforms unreachable high in the air so no 1 can spawn camp and zombies drop " random".

Zombies win if all humans are dead - zombies.
Human win after time limit or all zombies are dead.
