The dumber people think you are, the more surprised they're going to be when you kill them.

Oh, it's very well made. But it's not a real tee.

Don't think that Minute.
i know for a fact that heaps of people care about copyrights on this forum and the subject has been brought up fart too ofter (EG People stealing Artwork/skins/other stuff) and has always been resolved.
Just think Stivikivi, if you made a magnificent art work that everyone loved then suddenly a random person comes out of nowhere, re posts your work putting a few scribbles over it claiming that it is his,
Tell me...
What would you do?
[EDIT]

Nice Skin.

I think there are two totally different issues that need to become clear, and that is the difference between copyright and creativity. Taking an already designed character and turn in into a tee would technically involve copyright, but at the same time this is just as old as Teeworlds supports custom skins. As long as the confirmed owners of let's say Halo don't complain about using Master Chief skins there will be no reason to remotely care about such issues.

On the other hand there is creativity within the community. For Teeworlds, being a community driven open source game, it's very important that there is a code of honor to respect everyones creativity. Of course it's immoral to claim ownership of a skin, map or art you didn't make. Also when you use somebodies work as a base for your own creativity it's nice to give them some kind of credits. This code of honor is usually respected, the Teewiki does it, most major designer do it, and this only turned out to be an issue when new players didn't know about it.

However there also needs to be a limit to this. Considering the first steps of any skin tutorial ask you to take the base of a previously created skin it's impossible to request credits if somebody made his own tee but actually kept your eyes or hands. It's also impossible to consider your creativity the sole owner of a single map structure, anyone is free to copy the way a map is structured and adapt it to his own opinion. Lost is a very good example where the popularity of the map has spawned numerous copies, which where all creative in their own way while keeping the map structure.

My point is that you can expect some credits for the entire skin, map or art you made, but only the piece of creativity as a whole. Claiming every detail of a skin, shape of a map or piece of a tileset would only kill the spirit of Teeworlds. Teeworlds in many ways like Wikipedia, when you contribute you contribute to an open community where people can and will access your creativity and modify it.  For anyone who knows the internet it is common knowledge that anything you put online will at some point be copied and has very little value when it comes down to copyright. You can expect some credits but only to a degree.

I'm just saying that people should be considerate. Be original, Not take anthers work then scribble over it, Claiming its there's.
