Topic: New weapon?

Every game I have played that has guns, excluding two that I can think of, had some sort of high powered somewhat decent range rifle. TeeWorlds has a shotgun laser nader all that jazz, but no rifles. The pistol is a good one but it is so weak. I think there should be a rifle, like the M1 Garand, thats a lot like the laser, have it do a ton of damage, like 7 or something, but give it a real big cooldown, or reload whatever you guys call it. It'll be the powerhouse, not to be confused with the sniper. It should have a small margarine of error like it has a 5 degree miss or something. 2,1,0,-1,-2 degrees can be altered on trajectory.

What do you guys think of this idea?
I could make a sketch of it.

I think that 2 weapons that look kinda the same isn't a good idea. Weapons should be unique, and too many weapons will make it bad because teeworlds is a game about skills, not the weapons you have. Your weapon should be your buddy.

First - Teeworlds is Teeworlds and shouldn't be exactly like all the other games around.

The rifle does 5 damage and is really powerful against almost any opponent, you just need some skills.
I see no need for a more powerful weapon - the katana works perfectly as a powerful weapon, requires skill, long cooldown, much damage.

Having multiple weapons that do the same thing is kinda against the Teeworlds spirit and ambition.

What would this weapon add to Teeworlds?

but Somerunce the Katana is/was just placeholder for "other" power up weapons

What rifle? Rifles shoot one bullet that goes a good distance is pretty accurate and packs quite the punch.
We got a shotgun, which is hard to use but a shotgun nonetheless, and we have a laser, pretty much what I was thinking but it bounces and you can shoot it pretty quick.

What I mean by rifle is pretty much the pistol but with bigger cooldown, more damage, and limited ammo.

You missed the point. Your weapon idea does not bring anything new ( read: ground-breaking ) into teeworlds. It just a tweaked laser. My advice to you is to play the game and inspect how certain players combine the different weapons. Some of them are good for defense, some for attack and chasing, some to gain speed, some of them are good for more than one thing, etc. IMHO a new weapon should bring something that you cannot make with any combination of the current weapons.

And to clarify some terms:
laser = sniper = rifle
pistol = gun

Hmm, good advise.
What is there was a gravity gun, sorta...
Like, if its a tee or a pickup it will bring it toward you, but if its immobile it will bring you toward it.
Naa thats just a hook made into a weapon... lol maybe make the hook be able to grab items? big_smile
So much for rifle I guess.
Ummm, a homing rocket? No...
I can't think of anything then. I wanna think of something unique but everything that has been done keeps popping  into my head.

Wait, what if you can get an item that builds a wall. But the wall has hit points. Like a little brick, and you just push a button and your guy puts it where you aim, if it can be put there. Then they have 20hp. But you need a new item for every block.

Okaaay. I agree. But could you tell me something you cannot do with any combination?

I think new weapons would be only useful with new features ingame.
Like dodging, teleporting, "dolling", building (exa.) towers, installing guns, radar, melee with weapons (like pistol), scripts or any actionful things with hook o_O

I think dodging shouldn't be implemented. Your dodge is running around while they shoot. As for teleporting I think that would be useful.
Im not quite sure what you mean by "dolling" though. Do you mean something like a dolly, a mobile game tile? That would be interesting. Like a platform that you can plot about and make do things.  I can imagine a capture the flag where the flags move. hehehe.

Automatic guns should in no way be implemented. I think this would remove skill from the game, and would be very easy to exploit.

Radar, might work. Like have a little radar you put out then if they are in range it puts a little arrow on the edge of your screen telling you what direction they are in.

Melee with weapons.. I think the hammer covers this. If weapons could melee there would be no use for hammer.

Triggers should be built into the editor. Like Warcraft 3's editor. Have triggers in the map.
