Topic: [Request] Death toll

Hi,

There has been already plenty of discussions about this on IRC, and it has been mentioned here once almost one year ago (http://www.teeworlds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=225) but with no official answer.

I would love a death toll (death count) feature in the client; it should not change the scoreboard order, just put as an additional information the death count of each tee.

It does require a bit of server side modification (only send the current death toll for each id when a new player joins, that's totally insignificant bandwidth-wise) and a client-side modification (that should be an option, probably disabled by default?).

Why should it be in vanilla? Because this is information most decent players want as statistics regarding their game, just like the capture time that is available in 0.5 or the ping as a public information; and any client mod will work only if the player was online at the beginning of the game. Plus using a modded client will go against most tournament rules.

Also, it could be used in tournament when two tees have the same score to discriminate the winner (and if they both have the same score and death toll, well; then let them have a 1on1 ;p).

This is a purely indicative feature that everyone has been waiting a long time for, and I look forward to it for 0.5.1 (or 0.5.0, I would gladly add it myself but I'm not sure how patches can make it into the official branch).

If you are gonna add something like this, then i want to see more information; for example when the player joined (time counter), quality of connection (i have a good ping on panik servers, but still i lag badly. The discussion over "bad" pings should find an end FINALLY )and maybe some more infos. As i want teeworlds to keep its unique simple looking style, i would like to have any additional information compared to the infos the game provides as it is currently in a hidden "box". You click on it, it extends the players infos.



If youre just gonna add the death info, it seems kinda unimportant to me. I wont stop playing the game if you add it unless it has a noticable effect on the player's pings.

I'd also like to see a death-kill-ratio. I don't know whether I'm expecting too much, but I'm looking forward to the new network code which hopefully will milden the ping problem.

This is going to reveal that I am a total noob, as my death count is secretly 10 times higher than my kill count.

Newer version recieved fixes according to matricks' remarks on the previous ones. Apparently it's still too bloated and doesn't follow the KISS principle but I paste it so you can discuss some of the ideas. Honestly the only thing I need personally is the Efficiency thing, but the Death counter would do the trick as well. Other stuff like logins have been added after matricks discussing his plans for community integration etc.

One thing for sure: This wont be in 0.5.

It requires network changes so it wont be in the game until the next big version, if it's considered to be in.
I'm not sure wether we will implement this any time, but I'll take the discussion with matricks as soon as I find time.

Personally, I still don't know why you wanna see the other player's deaths, unless it's to call them bad.

I think its not important informations about teeworlds player. If there are novice with teeworlds now, it wants only nickname for his tee. But with your idea, he needs to login (and register?) on any server, he must fill the clan website info (what if his clan hasnt got an webpage?), title sec and country?

I dont like your idea, its unnecessarily complicated and irrelevant, i think.

Honestly I don't see how the death counter is better. See, 73 frags with 10 deaths and 20 frags with 3 deaths are really different and to compare you have to do the calculations in your mind. Why bother then? Efficiency is much simpler. You can always calculate the deaths from it, but what you're interested is really the efficiency, not the precise count. As a bonus it allows you to observe your own death/kill ratio. For example I want to achieve at least 60% so I watch the Eff to not go below that.

*The "Login" thing is also useless and just spams the scoreboard.

Maybe it is, but the login system has been requested as a way against fake nicking.

All these extra info of course should be optional. On the mockups you can see players without expandable triangle, and not logged in.
