Topic: Endless maps
I've been thinking about this for a while now, but don't know if it would be fun or even possible. What I'm suggesting is a map which instead of having sidewalls will simply continue at the other side of the map. To clarify myself:
Now every map has a 'physical' or invisible wall which prevents players from 'leaving' the map at the left and right side. My idea is that when you walk into the right 'wall' the map will simply continue at the left side of the map. This will provide an entirely new dimension because now it will look as if the world is 'round' and you can continue in one direction for an eternity.
Here you can see how it would look if you could see the map from a distance. Of course the switch from the right to the left side should be fluently and not noticeable to the players, so for the players themselves the map will simply continue. (Not like you pop up at what now is the left side, but in a way that there is no longer any side).
This could also be done in a vertical way, in which you drop down into a pit and continue as if you would fall again from the top. Possibilities are endless. I doubt it would be possible on the short term, but we could at least discuss it as a possible concept.
