Okey, today I was a bit tired of doing regular TW-coding and documenting and such, so I decided to look into some of the weapon suggestions here.

I made a "Swap teleporter" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5pv9jeifDU) and a unrelated gun modifications that creates fake hearts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ_nKtueL0M).

The problem with Plasma Gun/Machinegun is the amount of ammo it would require. Right now all weapons have 10 ammo. This seems to be pretty standard. But having only 10 ammo for this weapon means you'd out of ammo in a jiffi after using it. Therefore you would need to think up a way to display how much ammo you have at the top left part of the screen, as the current system wouldn't work for this weapon.

Swap Teleporter and a lot of the other powerups described would be simply inefficient, ineffective and therefore useless. Why would you use this weapon instead of a weapon which deals damage? I would safely assume that in 90% of situations, you would be much better off using another weapon, like the rifle or grenade launcher.

Cool stuff! Although I really can't see that heart/health trick working. Everybody would know where the health is, and only noobs would fall for it, and get fustrated. It would only work if you fired it onto of another heart.

I think that the weapons should be simple and work well, but a bit of variation is good.

I like the idea of a portable hole and other quirky weapons/utilities. Random weapon items could make things a whole lot more interesting on certain levels and should not be too problematic to add.

Sadly, fake hearts are not going to fool anyone except utter newbies. Heart positions are fixed...

Even so, I appreciate it :-). Thanks. Do the players keep their momentum after swap, is it reset or also swapped ? I think it would be much more interesting if it swapped momentum of both players, so you could trick people with it. For example, to escape, jump away from your pursuer and hit him while in mid-air. He'll be flying away from you.
I wonder what happens if you use it while your grapple is attached to something. It could be quite amusing if your grapple remained attached in that spot. More potential that way.
But why not in mods ? If you've already implemented it, why not release the code for others to play with ?

I suppose it would be awesome in CTF maps (As long as its one-use). It could help to take the flag out of a heavily guarded spot, especially with the help of a teammate. It could be used in the opposite scenario, too -  to stop flag carrier from escaping. For example

Red(flag) Blue(swap teleporter) Blue
*swap*
Blue Red(flag) Blue

Flag carrier gets ganged on...
One extra suggestion
I think it should be single use, but not use ammo if you miss. Otherwise I think it may be too punishing if you miss, and too unreliable. I guess this may depend on your point of view, others may see it as 'rewarding skill' ...

You could make it fire bursts per ammo unit, for example 2 or 3 rounds per ammo unit. Even DooM did that with chaingun, they just displayed double your ammo number for some reason ;-).

See above. If nothing else, it would be awesome in CTF. In CTF it would even be overpowered if it had more than 1 ammo. It would totally wrap the game around it unless it had 1 ammo.
Another scenario: someone is going for the katana (or any other weapon) and he's going to make it. Swap your position with him and use the katana yourself.
Just try to think about any situation where an enemy has better position than you.

Sure, it wouldn't be of much use in regular combat and certainly NOT as a main weapon. That's why I'm suggesting that it's a disposable, 1-use device. It's a situational tool. However, to keep it more fair, perhaps make it not use ammo if you miss ? I mean, just 1 ammo would make it very easy to waste.

but i dont say no to new weapons if they are unique balanced and useful
but befor the laser should be balanced <.<

yay instantgib an etc. but this weapon is really weak in normal game modes

-range: so many times i tried to kill a flagrunner with the laser but it was to short ... if u stand and shoot with dynamic camera th range is ok but whil fast moving its too short dunno why but its so and it sucks
its a distance weapon then it should have a long range
and i would like if it would make 6 damage


AND i would like to have a weapon whick bring an new movement element like the rocket jump not a jump or sth. but sth. u know
dunno what but i would like it because i think tw is most of movement and blablabla

The laser is really overpowered in gamemodes with few players(1on1,2on2,3on3), and really underpowered in gamemodes with many players(huge ctf, huge dm etc.). Balancing will ofcource as always be looked at and finetuned before next release, as always.

i think that to keep teeworld originality there should not be so many weps because it would become like lerio or worms.. also that question mark idea was nicked from warcraft 3 random item and the swap teleporter is nicked from the swap location spell from Nox xD

Meanwhile grenade launcher is overpowered in all game modes. It's quite easy to kill someone in 2 hits, and it scales very well with player counts. Sometimes 1 shot will kill 2 players. Even 2 players with 2 shots (easy with splash damage) is good. This is impossible to do with laser (I think) and very very hard with shotgun. Shotgun takes 3 good hits to kill a healthy tee..
Grenade is actually easier to hit with than laser, on many occasions. Splash damage means you don't have to aim much, and once in a while enemies just jump onto your grenades. Not possible to do with laser.

Could it be that the apparent weakness of laser in DM/CTF comes mostly from ... map design ? I mean, how many maps have multiple lasers ? I know a map with 3 grenade launchers, 3 shotguns, and 1 laser. But the best way to make laser scale with player count could be to give it railgun-like effect (pierce multiple enemies). That would be a bit unoriginal, so - instead - how about making laser bounce from tees and not just walls ? It wouldn't matter in the slightest for duels, but would help in DM games.
That still leaves shotgun as the least ammo eficient weapon in the game...

New weapon idea:
Vacuum Cleaner
Pulls items in your direction, including hearts, armour, weapons and tees. Fairly simple, and would be good for collecting items on the move. But the "pull enemy towards you" may be redundant - there's already grapple/rope. So here's an idea: Vacuum Cleaner swallows other tees WHOLE, then after split-second coughs them out unharmed in the direction you're pointing to. Insert some silly animation :-). So it would be a "collect items from afar, send tees flying" kind of weapon. It may even be good in team games like CTF. On some maps it might allow to fly past obstacles or just surprise defence...

the fake heart weapon would be tottaly imba in ctf o.o
and i dont like the idea of mines (the hearts are like mines)

I like the Vacuum Cleaner!
Maybe to make the laser a little less weak make it infinite or very long range and either make it bounce off of tees or go through them (rail gun).
Random weapon would make things more fun due to less predictable results.

The only problem with it, is that it could make aim bots a real problem. Imagine on that ctf map lost (or whatever it's called). People would get raped from the other side of the map.

Although i'm not sure if teeworlds doesn't broadcasts information of players if they are x units away from your tee (as in you cannot see them, they are that far away). So if it does, that voids my above arguement, which is a good thing.

I too think the rifle should go through players like in Quake 3 (or 2?).

I don't think the rifle is any more over powered than the grenade. The least useful weapon in teeworlds is probably the shotgun. The hammer owns, and the pistol really isn't that bad of a weapon. It can be used a bit like the lg/shaft in quake, if you can them cornered, because you can shoot the weapon so fast.

I dont think you can compare the strength of each weapon as easily as that. All weps are balanced relatively to the corresponding gametype, amount and situation. Borsuk your ideas are good for sure, but i would turn your way of thinking around,thus i recommend to post what you are missing ingame and not tons of random but good ideas. Its hard to decide which one to implement if there are 100s of suggestions.  For instance i miss to be able to use my hammer as a middle - range weapon. It would be of good use and i would have to pick my hammer up again before somebody other takes it away and steals it lol. Additionally i believe that grenades are not suitable for TW cause they are maybe a bit too much for such a cute game and the kids playin it.  Good luck for your further ideas, greets.

No, listen.... It's a GRENADElauncher.... not a ROCKETlauncher...
The grenades explode at the moment when someone does touch them...
but real, small grenades are tactical useful and does it make difference if they explode or if they explode after 3 seconds?

You cant make a grenade look cute. Look at the grenade launcher: do you think real grenades look like a white pipe with 2 red semi-spheres at each end? Anyways it was just my personal opinion on grenades based on the fact that grenades emit devastating shrapnels. For the same reason i dislike mines cause there are still countries in europe with active mines as an aftermath of previous war. Just wanted to explain that it looks funnier to me when i throw my hammer at another tee standing far away instead of piercing him to death with sharp hot metal pieces. smile

But you don't actually see any sharp hot metal pieces piercing him. You just see a cartoon explosion with some puffy smoke.

I think we need something against laser.
If I am killed by a grenade, I can say : I could have avoid it if...
If I am killed by a laser : I couldn't have avoid it.

So, here is an idea :

Shield :

- damage : 0
- life (like ammos for weapons) : 3 (it repairs itself like the gun but slower)
- time : ~ 0.3 sec

The shield reflects lasers and is like an non-hook tile during 0.3 sec when used. You can orientate it, and It protects 25 % of your body.

+ If a laser bounces on your shield, then the laser become yours and you can kill/hurt people with it.

I dont think u could manage to use the shield effectively with such parameters. It would be like trying to hit the laser approaching u, with ur own. ( 0.3 sec + aiming in the direction where the laser comes from ) I know lotta people are having such problems with the laser rifle, so im not against the idea ( having something against laser ).

We will meet again when the flowers spread their glorious scent of victory and the birds sing us the melody of justice...

Wow brilliant thought ubu! That is what makes the laser imba... Now everything seems so clear and easy to me smile the solution: lets make the laser show us that we should avoid it by letting it charge! It rumbles a bit with a decent charge sound, making its reload time longer and its impact position predictable.

Have you ever played Quake, UT, or any fast paced FPS? There are always weapons (with some exceptions) that you can't avoid if your opponent got a good aiming.
