Ping is the time it takes from you send a packet of data until you get a response. Therefor, it's not exactly a setting you can change, but rather a combination of many things. Some of the most common things are:

1. Your connection speed, but up and down
2. How much your connection is used for except playing (in this case)
3. How far away you are from the server.
4. 1 and 2, seen from the servers point of view.

What you actually can do is make sure you don't use the connection to anything else while playing (or upgrade your connection speed, but that's a bit drastic).
