Topic: Waiting List

what about one waiting list if the server you wanna join is full?
then it can show "You are on X position to enter..."
(or something like it)

Re: Waiting List

It's an idea, but I think it doesn't belong in Teeworlds. Currently there are (or should be) a few different servers that use a specific map/mod/whatever. If a server is full there are always others to play on imo. Let's say that there's a server with long queue, like 10 places. After 5 minutes probably 2-3 of them will be away doing something else, and taking places that the other players want. That would screw the thing up.

It's a pretty nice idea, but I don't think it'll work.

Re: Waiting List

I've noticed Somerunce likes to pee in other peoples cheerios so I'll add my input on the subject.

It's a great idea.  Definitely would add a little more polish to the game.  There are a lot of times where this would also fit into the "Server Favorites" list.  Sometimes a server is just more moderated and has a better set of players that keep coming back and you badly want to get into THAT server - this would solve that.

Other things Somerunce doesn't believe in: Downloadable Tees from server, More tees than what is included in vanilla-teeworlds, More than 12 players per server, etc. - just from a quick search of his posts.

Re: Waiting List

Firstly, there is no need to ignore Somerunce just because he doesn't think like you, I agree with somerunce on all the mentioned points, that doesn't make my vote mean less, does it? :<

I think the idea is quite good, but it feels like one of those things I think the devs should put their time on, if you really want to get into that server, just refresh the serverlist until there is an empty place, else people would prolly put theirselves in line and then go afk or whatever, and the server would end up filled with afk players.

Just my opinion though.

Re: Waiting List

The first thing that popped into my mind was "Who would really wanna wait on a server slot?", and I still don't fullt get it. At the very moment I'm writing this there are 219 servers, and 19 of them have minimum one player (like five have just one). Ok, ok, I know it's past midnight and it's probably the time with the least players, but hey, I don't think it will be 200*12 more players tomorrow morning playing TW when I wake up. I'm not saying it's a bad idea with a queue, I just don't get need.

The biggest diffrences between servers today are maps and mods, not players. I can see that the demand on, for example, the survival server is higher than on vanilla or instagib, because it's just one server hosting that mod atm. But really, a thing that's only necessary for a few servers? The most of the servers host normal games, or instagib, and if you really wanna play that type of game so bad, why not just pick another server? And if you have friends playing on a full server, just ask them to join a server with less players so that you can join in too, or spam refresh?

I feel that it's about time to add something like that when there aren't as many servers as there are players, or as now, twice as many servers. But maybe I'm missing something?

The proposition "I am the center" need never be uttered. It is the assumption upon which all certainty and all doubt turns.

Re: Waiting List

Many times on beachfight (there is only one server with instagib on this map) is full...
And you try, try again and nothing.

And this happens with many other servers...
So you just 'give out'

Re: Waiting List

I think this is a very good idea. However I'm not sure if Teeworlds is ready for this just yet.
It would require some coding, and I think there are more important issues to deal with first.

I'm convinces this will come one day though.

@Slinack, Do you have access to a server with decent connection to the internet? Then you could set up a server of your own.

Used to be very active waay back

Re: Waiting List

His idea is good because it incorporates a few other ideas that would improve tee-worlds as well.

Reserved slots for admins
Spectators not showing as players on server list (I use this cheap trick to keep my server full with just 2 spectators, people think there are others on the server and join)
and if teeworlds supported the ability to allow more than 12 tees per server, we'd have less of that problem.

As it is now, Teeworlds is one of those "5 minute games" that you can play just before work, or before you have to go somewhere.  There is a lot of rotation on the servers, but sometimes you have that extra time and you just want to play with the friends you've made on that one particular server.

Re: Waiting List

Reserved slots is already implemented. And the number-of-slots-question has been discussed over and over and over and over again. There might be a higher limit added, but it's not a ticket for neither 0.5 or 0.6 as for now, so it probably wont come in the nearest future, spectators need a spot on the server too, so it isn't possible to have spectators not use slots, you can already have a number of spectator-only slots though.

Re: Waiting List

hmm how about increasing the numbers of max clients on server but not changing the number of playing slots and in the next round they play and some other people have to spec with some kinda list system those who join later on the server have a higher list number than the people who are playing

Re: Waiting List

Do it this way: You can request a position in the queue. You go play somewhere else. When the time comes to your turn, an UNOBTRUSIVE notice pops up and holds your place for a minute. You can cancel or accept, cancel is basically like if you didn't respond for a minute (anti-afk), accept moves you to the server.
