Topic: Gamemode: MOD

Modded servers have gotten so common nowdays that if you just join a server casually it is very often a modded one. Personally I find this a bit troublesome. I don't mind the existance of mods, and they can be nice to play, but it's still annoying to join one by accident when wanting to play a normal game.

Therefore I suggest that you make it so all modded server register as gamemode MOD in the serverbrowser. So if it sais DM, TDM or CTF you would know it's a normal server, while if it sais MOD you can read the servername for hints of what it is. I'm thinking the browser could handle it exactly like the other gamemodes, so you can filter them out, filter so you only see modded servers and so on.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

I think it would be better if everyone used the prefix [MOD] in server name, or something like that, so that you still know the gametype. Then you can filter by typing [MOD].

And how would you filter them out?

I think a more userfriendly possibility than using the search is neccessary, otherways I think many newbies won't know the difference between modded versions and the original game.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

You would type [MOD] in the search field.

I think he ment, how do you show servers that is not running a mod. By filtering on [MOD] you will show all thats running a mod. There would be no way to show non mod servers.

Yep, that´s what I meant. And showing only non modded servers would be a more important feature in my opinion.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

It could also be solved by adding some kind of negation in the search field. i.e. searching for "![MOD]" would show all results not containing "[MOD]"

Re: Gamemode: MOD

The scenario of every server running a mod manually writing [MOD] in the name doesn´t seem all that realistic to me though.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

There should be a mod mode, but it should be "mod x", where x is ctf, dm, or tdm. So if the mod checkbox is unchecked, no mods show. However, if it is checked and ctf and tdm are unchecked, it only shows dm mods.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

mod yes/no should be an additional flag you can filter for, not another option in the CTF/DM/TDM line.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

That's what I said.
For instance, a modded ctf server's gamemode would be
ctf mod
If the mod mod is unchecked, it will not show. If the ctf flag is, the mod will not show.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

hmmm...I've taken a [MOD] tagg into my servername...because of exactly this...and I haven't seen yet a server that is modded without a [MOD] or Testing tag into it's name wink

Too bad it doesn´t help one bit then.

Re: Gamemode: MOD

? just order the Servers after names...then you've all the modded servers in a row wink

That would work if it weren't for the fact that the "[MOD]" is placed first, last or somewhere in between =/

search [MOD] smile

Re: Gamemode: MOD

I think that all servers should be hashed on connection, and the servers that isnt clean shouldn't be visible if you dont uncheck Show unpure servers or something.. Default I don't think the server browser should show modded servers bu default, cuz atm alot of newcomers that play the game for the first time accidentally joins a modded servers and finds himself in a cheatable, unbalanced or vastly simplified server which may put him/her off the game.

And even if it would work, that would be something only advanced users would come up with. We need something that makes it easy for beginners to see what´s modded and what´s original, too.

Making modded servers inviible by default seems like the only good solution to me.
