Topic: Game style

I have two proposals:
1.) Stop throttling traffic. This is wrong. What should take seconds takes upward of 30 seconds. This would be a necessary thing for the next proposal.
2.) Allow more than twelve players. Imagine a large scale war, with 50 tees to a side. This would be simply awesome. Of course, this would require bigger maps which equals bigger download times. The download time increase would not be so bad if the throttling stopped.
What do you think?

i think thats awesome 12 is just not enough ppl for the servers. good thinking

Im Bermudian and im proud <(^_^)>

Re: Game style

I REALLY think that 12 is NOTHING.. i want to see 50 each side!!!

100 Tees ftw

Re: Game style

1) First of all, no throttling is being done. The map download is just hacked in there and isn't done properly. This will be fixed later on.
2) The limit 12 players is a limit that I sat because it's what I feel is the "right amount". I will increase this later on when the network code is more optimized. I've done some optimizations for 0.5.0 that reduced the bandwidth usage by 40%. Having a server to support 100 tees requires more drastic measures. It crosses over the magical 32 that will cause some problems in the engine. Can easily be fixed however. And then you have the bandwidth issues. To allow so many players, one would have to throttle the traffic and scale the amount of traffic going through the pipes. This will not be done because this is not the focus of teeworlds. 100 players begin to cross over intro mmo territory.

Re: Game style

Are you serious? 100 tees?

This is the most stupid idea i ever read on this forum..

Imagine capturing a flag and having to break through a defense of 10 tees in the base Oo And bring the flag back, killing 20 other tees, to finally arive in your base where another 10 tees wait for you..Sure you have a team but it's useless.

I played a 12vs12 some time ago on CTF2, and no matter how big the map would be it is too much.

I would be glad if the devs make additional spectator slots..cause people sometimes just chat and want to watch the game while the pr0s (me of course) are playing their game.

12 palyers + 10 spectators would be already a major achievement!

Re: Game style

id say if you had 30 that would be more than enough, i mean, you could have fun without completely overcrowding.

hello, my names jack, i love making new skins and i have a rubber duck for a gun!

why not...

Re: Game style

Well, yeah. 100 was a rather large overstatement by me. And just as long as there is a larger limit, I'm happy.

Re: Game style

think 100 on each team... no one wud be able to move! you could make a human wall as a barer for the flag

Re: Game style

Goldtrayer, that's why you'd need a large map.

I completely agree!

I've always been a huge fan of 1v1 duels since I played Quakeworld.

1v1 is awesome fun. 100 would be gay.

Imagine the kill stealing...

I have seen already the tendency here to reinvent everything. But by the love of god, instead of redeveloping the next download protocoll, just use TCP. You can easly access the results of 10 years network development research by opening a TCP port...

A cool solution would be to use on clientside libcurl to download maps. Server administrators could then put the map on another server from them, and provide an URL to it...  for people who don't want to worry about putting the map anywhere you can use the curl "telnet" protocoll on the running server. telnet://my.server.com:8303 where it just dumps the contents TCP connection. In the server just stuff the whole map into the TCP socket and let the kernel worry about doing optimal networking stuff.

I didn't mean to be rude. Just I found the idea quite bad. Can't see it working at all. So chill, I wasn't out to hurt anybody, just giving my opinion.

Re: Game style

100 tees is stupid. 20-30 is better. I think that you should speed up teeworlds (bandwith) first.
