Name lengths should also have a maximum... It's not cool with someone joins a server with the name: Sflsdkfjsadlkfjasdlkfjasldfjklasdkfj and then spams the screen full of useless text!

I'm seeing some tees without nicknames almost every time I'm playing, and I really think it's annoying. It's not that bad on normal maps with untuned/modden settings, but on maps with layers on top of the game layer and/or instagib, it really sucks.

Useless discussion sry..

Turn details off if you want to see the tees hiding behind bushes or something.
But i think it's up to them if they want to be nameless or not. I don't care. Not important.

How about a new field for your, optional, clan name?

Player Name (3 to 8 chars).
Clan Name (0 to 16 chars) - longer because it would only be shown in the player listing and only on screen.

Having a seperate Clan field would also allow for clan tracking (scores, etc).

I think it should be enough to require at least 1 alphanumeric character in the nick. Not sure about the maximum though.

I'd vote for munyul's solution ^^

Maybe it would be a nice idea to automatically fill in the clan name field, by making clans physically exist in the game itself? Like in WoW, where the clan is automatically displayed over one's head. smile

A tight max letters limit just seems like a very unneccessary annoyance. A minimum name lenght makes sense to me though, though why have it any higher than 1?

I for one would really like to see a reasonable name length limit, such as 8 or 10 characters.

Player name: 1 to 8 (Alexandr)
Clan name: 1 to 16

What would be cool is if the clan names could be registered with the master server and then the owner/leader could, via a website, deny or accept players requests to join the clan - stopping various player from claiming to be part of a clan that they are not. Also, the ability to register player names would be good smile
