Topic: FPS Problems

Hey smile

I recently upgraded my Linux Mint 15 to Linux Mint 17 and everything worked fine, except for Teeworlds.
When I try to play Teeworlds I get so less FPS that I can play very easily, my ping in f1 is also alot higher (it was 60-80 before on most servers but now it's 100-140).
Because of this FPS problem I can use my aim/cursor properly and with that my whole screen has a little delay which is really annoying.
Is there any way I can boost my FPS for Teeworlds, or maybe try another version because I really want to play it but its impossible like this.
I have no FPS problems on my PC or Teeworlds and I never had, I play Teeworlds for 2 years on my PC without any problems, I used Linux Mint 15 for 1 year and before that I believe I used Ubuntu 12.04.

Thank you big_smile

Re: FPS Problems

I just upgraded to Linux Mint 17 so I will take a shot at it ASAP to know if it's indeed the reason.

Re: FPS Problems

The ping increase is weird. I suspect finding the reason behind it will solve your problem. Do you have any torrent client running? Automatic updates? Anything that downloads? Maybe someone else on your network is downloading? If you are using wireless, change the password, maybe someone got into your network without you knowing (specially if you are using WEP I would say this is it). Run and connect to a local server, see if it changes anything.
I'm not sure if mint does this but maybe since it's a fresh install it's updating a search database or something and is going through your filesystem and it's causing "slowness".
Install graphics card driver if you haven't done so (maybe you forgot).
I'm out of ideas

But... what if we tried more power?

Sorry if I make some dumb mistakes, I'm not very proffesional with computer.
My internet goes through cable, and my I am almost 100% sure that it is doesn't have anything to do with downloading, I rarely download programs or movies so that can't be it, and I was able to play reasonable teeworlds on my old Mint while downloading 1,5 MB/s. I have no automatic updates and nobody else downloads big things the whole day long. I'll try a local server but I just came back from vacation smile so my update isn't "fresh" anymore (i think). I'll go try teeworlds tomorrow, and if it doesn't work i'll setup a local server. It could also be the graphic card driver, I don't know if I have it because my uncle updated it so I'll ask him if I don't.
Thank for your ideas man smile
I'll make an update tomorrow, hope for the best big_smile

*UPDATE:

Well I'm a bit late, sry :s.
But I tryed to play teeworlds and nothing changed since I came back from my vacation, I found out that how higher the resolution of teeworlds, how lower my frames per second are. I normally play on 1280x1024 but the only "playable" resolution is 640x480 (or something like that, I can't remember) but it's still very hard to play gamemodes like FNG and zCatch.
I tried installing a new graphic card driver as you told me but I don't know how and I couldn't find any tutorials. My graphic card is a Nvidia corporation g86 geforce 8500 gt driver, maybe one of you guys could explain how to install it because it gives an error when I try to open it with the GDebi Package Installer. I tryed it on a LAN server too but it did not work as it used to before my update, still laggy with few fps.
This is all I know.

Re: FPS Problems

My best guess is that the driver for your graphic card is not installed properly. Ask in linux mint forums for help with that.

But... what if we tried more power?

Re: FPS Problems

Do you play with other things open, like playing TeeWorlds but still having something open in the background?
