Topic: Bluescreens all the Time

So i played a modded Teeworlds for a really looooong time (Teeworlds Gamer), was just fine even running big games and teeworlds at the same till now(GW, GW2, mostly mmos).
But in the last week i had sooo much bluescreens because of Teeworlds it really annoys me!!!
All started with Tera Rising, couldnt run teeworlds when Tera was running because bluescreen.
Some time after that nearly every launch of Teeworlds caused a bluescreen, but i wouldnt lost hope to my most favorite game Teeworlds, so i installed the shitty minimalistic standard version. Didnt really help, sometime i got to select a server and got bluescreen, other times i even played normally and as i wanted to close teeworlds it would (what a surprise) cause a bluescreen. I gave up, didnt played it for a week and got a new PC.
New PC, new Hope. NOPE! Downloaded completely fresh teeworlds, but still wierd and unconsistent bluescreens.

TL;DR: Cry hard, teeworlds causes unconsistent bluescreen, got new PC new OS (win8.1) new installation, again bluescreens, cry some more...

GET YA SHT TOGETHA
I really dont want to give up on teeworlds but it seems i have to either do that or rewrite it in Java...
Any ideas ? Some people that have the same problems ?

Additional Info:
TW-Version: 0.6.2
Old PC: Win7 Ultimate 64bit, Teeworlds Gamer and standard (all drivers were up to date)
New PC: Win8.1 Pro 64bot, Teeworlds standard

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

What STOP-Code do you get? Are your drivers up-to-date?

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

Does this really matter ? (Something with kernel_security)
All in all i wanted to say that teeworlds is some very instable piece of work.
I never had any problems with any programs in regards to bluescreens (8years of playing very much very different games, most of em non AAA)

Instead of pushing out new content the development should rather focus on fixing sht.

And yes my drivers are and were all up to date. Im not a computer newbie, i know how to fix stuff myself but with teeworlds the main issue is the usage of C++ for me personally because i dont have enough knowledge in that to contribute.

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

And i know dozens of computers where teeworlds is running fine. Therefore the problem is probably not teeworlds but your computer(s) or some software or configuration on it.
I also never had a serious problem regarding teeworlds.

Also, "kernel security" sounds like a driver problem

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

Well then i shall write a hate-email to intel or nvidia to fix their sht or what ? (installed all new drivers friday)
I dont have much knowledge about error codes from c++ but kernel security sounds more like a memory addressing issue to me...
And yes i know teeworld can run fine if it wants, but just IF.

i can imagine most people wont even think about posting a support ticket / whine thread, they just ignore that game that throws bluescreens at them.
For a game as good as TW it has a frikin low userbase, somewhere is the reason, just find it.

And what im addressing is mainly the instability, as soon as 1 little parameter is out of bounds it throws bluescreen and i have to fkn reboot my system.

Parameters i figured out fk tw:
- any anti-vir scanning tw(avast, avira, avg)
- some other high performance game running(mainly noticed while playing tera)
- alt-tabbing, or any other program grabbing focus can at certain times throw BSOD.
- even rapid clicking gave me BSOD one time, as soon as tw opened trying to join any server(spamclick)

Simple Error Report system and maybe the typically "tw.exe stopped working"-thing would be more than awesome.

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

First: calm down please.
From all we know from your complains, the only shit is your operation system.
Next time write down the error code and we can (maybe) give you some help. But crying that it isn't running is fairly no good description!

PS: What kind of "tw.exe stopped working" do you expect when your operation system (and not teeworlds) crashes?

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

tl;dr: It's probably not Teeworlds. If you want help, give us more detailed information about the error (errorcode etc.)

I have been using Teeworlds on different Windows versions (including 8.1 Pro 64 bit, 7 pro). I never encountered any of the Problems you mentioned. It really sounds very much like a driver, however if it is the really unlikely case, it's actually Teeworlds at fault here, we still can not help you in any way with the information you gave us. What we need in order to trace back, what is causing the blue screen, we need detailed information about the error codes. Every bit of information you see on your screen is helpful.

I really dubt memory adressing issues would throw you a blue screen. There are things like stack protector and that sort of stuff nowadays. Things like that would simply cause teeworlds to stop running. Something that throws you a blue screen is something, that really fucks up something deep in the kernel, which again makes me think it's not teeworlds causing your problems, because teeworlds does not mess with things like this at all.

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

Unless there is a bug in Windows which is triggered by Teeworlds, it cannot cause a bluescreen as it's a user space application. Only stuff that runs in the kernel (such as drivers, ..) can cause bluescreens.

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

Tell us more about what you did while and directly after you installed Windows 8. Did you get the files copied over, did you reinstall everything? (Do you have a dual boot of 7 and 8?)
Try deleting your Teeworlds config, of renaming it, and then see if it does the same.
This problem occurred to me while playing Teeworlds on Linux Mint and Archbang.
Your said "Installed mmos" may have changed your graphics drivers to something unwanted without your permission. (That happened to someone I know, and this is not the much different)

I could do more if I knew you, Marik, but everyone and I need more info to help you, unless you don't want help.

I'll keep thinking about this.

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

Well here i am again...
Reinstalled windows 8 single boot (got my backup linux on a stick now, yay)
Completely installed all drivers new and stuff...

WORKS! Its sadly only the 'official' version (with nearly no feature *cough*) but i think thats okay. I'm too scared of running gamer client again and having that fkn permanent bug...

Firstly i must say im astonished by the support i got... maybe its my somewhat sarcastic writing style, i dont know, but really great support!

To all that bluescreen writing, i think ghost had the most plausible explanation that it cannot be teeworlds and is indeed my os (C++ has better memory access 'n stuff)... Well in the end i dont know if it really was my os or the tw-gamer client that somehow permanently disabled my teeworlds gaming.

All the above text was written provocative and sarcastic on purpose, sorry if i wasnt nice ^^ (found out you get more help that is constructive when you write like that)

tl;dr THANKS!

Im happy your problems are solved, but this is in any way wrong.

And, although i don't know the gamer client, i'm pretty sure it won't fuck up your system. But it could change a setting your computer couldn't (for any reason) handle. In this case removing the settings.cfg should solve it.

Re: Bluescreens all the Time

The only things that would somehow, eh "involve the system", are the use of console colors and clipboard, there are many features (like in the standard game) that may cause a crash, but I can't see why it would raise a bluescreen.

The settings are also stored on a separate config file so it can't have fucked up your settings.cfg. It's most likely a problem from your hardware / drivers.

Not Luck, Just Magic.

I think the reason you got so much support is because the Teeworlds community isn't full of ragequit drunks. You know what I mean, and besides, Teeworlds should be playable for all, and no problem (major problem) should go unsolved.

Glad to hear it works!

Well you dont know much about psychology then, (me neither c: just read it somewhere).
This is the most effective way to incorperate other people, there is a reason that good presentation have some small jokes in them and often enough take the presenter not serious.
It just keeps people a bit more interested, i write somewhat constructive things and somewhat not...

Actually i remember Teeworlds Gamer Client having both!

In the End it will be and stay a mystery of what caused that problem.
If someone has connections to some sci fi professor i would appreciate it if you could send me their E-Mail.

I can't reproduce the Error anymore, so
Thanks again for the additional Information provided!
