Topic: Major 5.0 Suggestions! Please Read!

I know that 4.2 just came out, but I think that we should start planning a few new things for 5.0, because despite the fact that every version has better graphics, maybe a new weapon, no change is made to the game-play. That brings me to my first suggestion, there should be breakable terrain. This means that there should be random crates and barrels that can be shot open by any weapon. Wether or not the contain anything inside them is up to the developers. I think that this could greatly affect the game play, and add new twists the the game. Also, I believe that the terrain should have special features, such as mud and ice. When tees step in mud, the move slower, and when the step in ice, they friction is decreased a lot. I hope the developers will take my ideas into view, and I hope to see some of the suggestions in future games. Please respond regarding the suggestions and whether you think they are a good idea or not.

Mud and ice could be nice for the gameplay if used very correctly.

Creates however, I'm not so sure about. I think those would be more code than fun if you know what I mean.

AFAIK the map format and the map editor are going to be rewritten, the new versions will support "special" tiles (like unhookable or hurting ones) and I don't see why other kind of tiles, like ice or mud, shouldn't be added.
I think crates and breakable stuff would be really cool too, but I don't think they should be supported by the engine: IMO the mods should care about that, so I'd wait for the mod system to be complete.

peoro: You can add custom tiles now as well. I've been working on water (slowing down, currently only the player) and ice (boosts the y-velocity by adding 2 to the current velocity). Those aren't perfect right now since the client is predicting wrong.

I've said from the beginning that destroyable terrain isn't something that will be in Teeworlds. It's not that kind of game.

As for the gameplay, personally, I happy with the gameplay that we have now. You shouldn't just add stuff because you can. Everything should have it's reason. Tiles like mud and ice, I don't really see it fit in a multiplayer game. It fits better into a single player game which teeworlds is not and never will be. The two tiles that are planned for addition in the future is the kill tile and the non-hookable.

As for planning, see http://trac.teeworlds.com/trac/roadmap for the current plan. It can change a lot and stuff can be moved around depending on needs.

I think such special tiles don't fit very well in DM, TDM and CTF games too, but they could be useful for some mods (like in race games), thus, once there is a stable modding system (or if/when race maps will be officially supported), I'd add this feature.

but I think if you are going to put in "Water"
there should be a time limit to how long you can be in the water... and I little timer in the coner of the screen. The Tees are not fish!

I think they fit in a multiplayer game. Water will be great. This will give additional fun.

If teeworlds is going to be a serious multiplayer competition game they shouldn't implement water. I think it kills something of the gamespeed and movement.
I dont like water in cs,ut,... anyway

peoro: there is no modding system planned for a long while. matricks has said many times that he doesn't support mods and such, so you are on your own if you want to create mods.

peoro: there is no modding system planned for a long while. matricks has said many times that he doesn't support mods and such, so you are on your own if you want to create mods.

It's there since latest 0.3 version, and I don't expect it to be done any time soon. Anyway the special-tile-support would be necessary to a good mod system and thus, since the mod system is planned, I'd take custom tiles in consideration while choosing the map format.

well, if you read the topic it's reffering to you see that it has only to do with settings so you can have teeworlds on usb sticks...
