Topic: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Dear Teeworlds community,

The Serious Business Enterprises Corporation is pleased to announce The New Competitor on the fiercely contested battle grounds of Teeworlds client-modifications.

The name is DDWar client, but dont let this drive you into wrongly assuming it was meant for playing DDWar only - while it is the recommended client for DDWar servers, we do strive to enhance quality of gameplay across all mods.

In order to leverage initial distribution we launched a website, where you will find a list of features, and of course the actual donwloads.
A source release will probably follow in the future.

Love,
The Serious Business Enterprises corp.

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Do you take feature requests.

3

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Of course we do, (although obviously we don't guarantee implementing them).
There's a 'Contacts' button on our website, you could either submit your idea through there, or (preferrably) tell us on IRC.

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Interesting, I will test it soon.
In the meantime I would like to know if this is some kind of reply to your own topic Should we fork a Mod-friendly version of Teeworlds?
Makes me wonder why you do not mention any available source code at all. Regarding the autoupdate feature, are there any other kind of "surveillance features" embedded? May I disable it to opt-out of connections to your servers?
Just a curious potential user smile

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Some interesting, unmentioned "features" that I thought everyone would like to know:
- Adds a server to your favorites without even telling you.
- The color-coding actually just makes every non-16+ player cap server orange, 64 player cap yellow, and 128 player cap green.
- Comes with a bunch of random skins.
- Besides the above mentioned things, looks exactly like the standard client.

None of these are mentioned anywhere before downloading. This is unacceptable. I am assuming this is a joke client, and that's a joke website, and that I'm not supposed to take this seriously. fisted, if this is not a joke, please PM me on IRC (or highlight me in #teeworlds) and we can discuss why this client is a bad thing in the Teeworlds community.

Thanks for your feedback, we take it seriously at The Serious Business Enterprises corp. Let me clarify those points for you:

- DDWar Client uses different settings folder and does not modify your original Teeworlds settings in any way. Two official DDWar servers are marked as favorites only in DDWar client.
- Color coding feature is indeed designed to color DDWar servers green and any other server not obstructed with 16 player limit yellow. We assume 16 player limit is a joke and can discuss why it is a bad thing in the Teeworlds community.
- Yes, we bundle several high quality skins, carefully selected by our Gameplay Content Provisioning division. Furthermore we plan on implementing on-demand skin fetching (with opt-out of course) in the future versions of our client.
- If you would like to learn more about the DDWar Client features that can greatly improve your gaming experience, please refer to the specially crafted Features section of our official website.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

You should really do the effort to list here some of the new features of the client.

Apart from all the DDWar compatibility features, and the auto-update thing, I haven't seen anything new on your "features" page?

The autoupdate feature exists solely due to the rapid release cycle nature of the DDWar Client, and ensures that all active users stay up to date. This improves end-user experience and frees up the development resources from the compatibility concerns. We do not, and do not plan to use autoupdate feature for any other purpose, surveillance or otherwise.

Apart from it, the only other kind of "surveillance features" are identical to those in Teeworlds client: connection to the Teeworlds master servers and version server (DDWar).

The way to opt-out from autoupdate is planned but not yet implemented, although there is a way to disable it manually. Please contact us if you need the details.

At this moment, the primary feature of DDWar Client is the native support of >16 player servers. DDWar Client is capable of handling and presenting to the user much bigger number of players (up to 128 currently). This feature is not specific to DDWar mod and is leveraged for all >16 player servers. And as the audience of >16 player servers composes the majority of Teeworlds player base, we hope many players will find our client useful.

Also it should be noted that DDWar Client is unique in this aspect as it is the first and only client to provide a complete and proper implementation of this feature.

How were previous implementations unproper? What did you do apart from increasing MAX_CLIENTS, MAX_CHARACTERS and other constant values?

Implementing proper support is not as easy as it sounds. In DDWar Client we did a lot of things: added pagination and scroll bars to various menus, performed some profiling optimizations, modified serverinfo network protocol just to name a few.

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Ah, kay, didn't think about that.

1) Agree. There's no need of forcely advertising users. It is easy to find DDWar servers since they are the only ones colored at green.
2) What's the problem?!
3 ) Well, he's kinda right. Well... At least it's a Teeworlds 0.6.2 Mod. tongue

EDIT:
The zip file does not include DDWar's SERVER bins. Is this a joke or something?

I believe this is because DDWar doesn't build on windows.

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Finally, we got client with >16 ingame players, but how to use this feature?
If i'll make serverside mod with more than ingame 16 players, am i capable to make it compartible with your client and vanilla client at the moment?
I think, you should provide smth like API functions.

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Would something like ghosts or entities be in the direction of this client?

Well it's not really new and it doesn't solve any of the "problems" out there. You still need to use this client to have >16 players gameplay with proper support.

If you can make a serverside workaround to have > 16 ingame players, it should obviously work with the DDWar client, even though I'm not sure it will give better results than vanilla.

Hi, glad to hear

Actually, no. DDWar is way older than the thread you mentioned, however, that idea isn't forgotton either. The DDWar client will certainly give a lot of real-world experience which will come very useful when approaching this!

traitor wrote:

While i don't have an idea how (SSL-secured) autoupdate counts as a 'surveillance' feature, you're perfectly fine to set the version server to some nonexisting domain, just like you could do in vanilla teeworlds, too.
Alternatively you might use the Linux version, that one doesn't support autoupdate at all, since we deem our linux users to be smart enough for manual updating anyway.

Dune wrote:

They didn't support vanilla clients ;)

Shahan wrote:

In order to have your server appear yellow in the list (meaning that the real player amount will be displayed and that (in 1.0.3 hopefully) freeze prediction will work even there), your server mod needs to support the 'extended' serverinfo message. I've had XXLTomate pull it into XXLDDRace64, since that's (sadly) the primary mod used for blocking. Consider these commits:
e2e4e1f76b19eb5142162dd24ad0887999420f0d
2ecb739ad79511a75e165e758bd116563fd79134
590cdd0810682e2638e1d7a1ac67b3833e5fc68b

Also if your gamemode isn't ddrace or related then please tell me its name, as we don't probe /every/ server with the extended message yet

Re: [CLIENT] Introducing DDWar client

Hey guys,

We all know that teeworlds has been going a bit downhill lately, because of the large amounts of very low quality servers hosted on home internet, which only copypaste maps from each other and run stupid mods with rainbows. Their ignorance and incompetence are killing the community.

But we, The Serious Business Enterprises corp. finally have a solution! Let me introduce our newest product: the ServerCrasher(tm) plugin for DDWar(r) Client. It is capable of crashing any low-quality server you encounter so that its players could enjoy better servers and have a more pleasant teeworlds experience. Operation is very simple, just click the Crash button next to Disconnect button and server would be down in no time!

DOWNLOAD ServerCrasher

Sample screenshot

Please use it and spread it to help us to clean the teeworlds of all bad servers. For great justice!

DOWNLOAD ServerCrasher

Update: Our team had a discussion and we decided to open the source of this plugin as that would benefit the community greatly. Source will be released tomorrow, stay tuned!
