The autoupdate feature exists solely due to the rapid release cycle nature of the DDWar Client, and ensures that all active users stay up to date. This improves end-user experience and frees up the development resources from the compatibility concerns. We do not, and do not plan to use autoupdate feature for any other purpose, surveillance or otherwise.
Apart from it, the only other kind of "surveillance features" are identical to those in Teeworlds client: connection to the Teeworlds master servers and version server (DDWar).
The way to opt-out from autoupdate is planned but not yet implemented, although there is a way to disable it manually. Please contact us if you need the details.

At this moment, the primary feature of DDWar Client is the native support of >16 player servers. DDWar Client is capable of handling and presenting to the user much bigger number of players (up to 128 currently). This feature is not specific to DDWar mod and is leveraged for all >16 player servers. And as the audience of >16 player servers composes the majority of Teeworlds player base, we hope many players will find our client useful.
Also it should be noted that DDWar Client is unique in this aspect as it is the first and only client to provide a complete and proper implementation of this feature.
