Ok. I and some friends have been playing teeworlds at school (only when our work is done!) and we noticed something... occasionally, there will be A LOT of lag... Our server is, even when theres no lag, at 999ping... Since I'm at school, I can't edit any network settings... What can I do to reduce lag? The internets pretty fast so I don't think its that. We use windows.
Are you on wifi? Could be that.
Yes were on wifi but we get about ~60mbps.
Maybe the wifi crashes regularly. At least, that's what happened with me.

It could be difficult to fix problems you don't have the rights for 
Hm oh well maybe its just the high load on their internet. Anyways, I can't seem to change gravity or any of the other settings in the server with the config. I want to make low gravity with long hooks but it doesn't seem to take effect.
tune gravity -99
tune hook_length 4000

Update: just found out you can't tune default modes... well thats lame. anyways, any way I can get a 'mod' ctf/tdm/dm where I can tune it and only I have to get the mod and it somehow works for anyone else who wants to play?
To modify the tunings, you need to change set up the server as mod.

sv_gametype mod
will do the trick.
but its dm only
Edit: If you want to modify the tunings for tdm or ctf, you need to use a server-modification.
Is there a mod server where its basically vanilla with tuning? Or can you recommend a cool new game mode? When I host the server, does the new game mode go to the players automatically or do they need to get the same modded client?
wich mod do u want ? If its vanilla dm , then just type in what Slayer *gV* sayd.

Usually they don't, but some mods (e.g. nodes) require mods.
Hm well I figured out some game types. Also found the solution to my lag issue; I didn't have sv_register 0
It's often better to play on ad-hoc, at least for me 
How do I do that?
Try set "sv_high_bandwidth" to 1
