Topic: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

Hello there,

I have really strange type of delay, that is really hard to describe for me.
But since it disturbs me I will try.

When I switch weapons, it takes longer than it is supposed to.
Also when I use my hook, it sometimes moves a little to the right or left.
My tee also moves a little to the left or right sometimes.

I don't think it has anything to do with latency, because I only join servers around 30ms.
My fps is around 60 static, so that can't be it either.

I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks,
Exabyte

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

Try to disable V-Sync in the graphics menu if it's enabled.

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

Already tried that, doesn't seem to work.

Thanks for you suggestion though.

I just noticed that my shooting has some delay aswell. I think it is better when I have v-sync disabled, but it is still really disturbing.

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

Its called ping -.-
I learned the game with this "ping", so I don't really notice it.
Live with it, or play on another server.
If I knew where you lived, I could tell you what servers would have a low ping for you.

no

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

Press tab to show your scoreboard and look up the "ping" tab. It is your latency between you and the server in milliseconds, so the smaller, the better. If you have a ping over 200 it's really bad and would explain your problem. Could you tell us your average ping?

Latency = Ping
It is around 30, so it can't be that.
I am playing from my girlfriends house, who plays without the lag(on a windows computer).
So we are playing from the same internet.

I appreciate your help though.

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

Maybe this is some kind of driver issue?
Or your computer can not handle the game properly, could you look at CPU consumption while the game is running?

My fps is alright and I don't think it has anything to do with drivers either.

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

Could you get a video of what its like? It might just be you, or you have too small of a computer.
I've had this problem before, and it went away after an operating system switch.

no

you can record your screen with Quick Time Player..
just go to your Applications Folder > Quick Time Player > File > New screen recording...
and upload the video to: http://www.solidfiles.com/ or something similar smile

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

I just found out it is because of my router that it happens.
My downloads get stuck all the time aswell. I also notice that while playting other online games, my ping gets very high for some seconds and then restores to the usual.
Youtube stops buffering sometimes as well.
The reason I had lag while I was at my girlfriend is because she was playing battlefield 3 online.

My router is a Linksys Cisco Wireless-N Broadband Router WRT160Nv3
I have the latest firmware installed and disabled the firewall.

I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks,
Exabyte

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

I've had the same problem during all the time I was using wifi. Came down to the conclusion one should never play over wifi.

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

What internet connection do you have ( in Mbit/s ).

Are there other users within your network ?
e.g. someone uploading a picture to facebook or sth else could result into a short lag.

Do you have other programs running while playing ? e.g. a program that loads updates from the internet every .. minutes and which could cause a lag ?

Well I do now that my download speed is around 1mb/s when I download a torrent.

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

I believe that torrenting has a huge impact on any game, try switching it off and see whether it helps.

I actually talked about uploading which has the impact. That is what the torrent program does after finishing the download (actually it already starts during the download).

I am not seeding any torrents either.

That's what everyone does when they open up a game, right?

Re: [OSX] Strange delay on my Macbook

No. I normally have Firefox, Teeworlds server, Pidgin, and sometimes Winamp open when I play Teeworlds.
Botox@ Having a Mac has NOTHING to do with his problem, or it is the problem.
I have no ideas of your lag, but it might be you need to lower the resolution. 800x600 If you need to.
.... Mac is a bit small if you ask me.

It is a network problem, and it has to do with my router, since my wifi randomly disconnects as well.
Edit: I AM NOT PLAYING OVER WI-FI!
