Topic: Focus problem on Linux/Gnome/Ubuntu

This is present since 0.3.3 (i am on 0.4.2 now).
On Ubuntu Gutsy once in a while mouse would detach from the game, with the OS cursor reappearing.
A click would give back focus to the game, so that was annoying but nothing more.

I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu Hardy beta. The bug got quite worse, the game would get minimised in the application bar. Restoring it has no good effect, and the only way out is to kill the game's process.

While I really can't complain about the behaviour on a beta OS, the problem is anyway annoying on the stable (gutsy) version as well.

What would tipically make the game loose focus is someone messaging you with the IM Client. (So you can reproduce it quite easily with pidgin, asking someone to msg you). Beside of that, even after closing every other application does not resolve the problem.

Bug tested on with Compiz activated on Gutsy and with Compiz and Metacity on Hardy.

I'm running the linux32 binary.
Feel free to contact me for any additional info you may need.

Cheers,
Tac

Re: Focus problem on Linux/Gnome/Ubuntu

How does other games behave on your system? Do they have the same kind of problems or is it only Teeworlds that you experiance this with? This would narrow it down if it's a problem that we have or if it's a problem with an application on your system. I run xubuntu and have never experianced it, but then again I don't run that much different applications.

Hello matricks, i wasn't expecting such a rapid reply.
I really play quite only teeworlds :-). But I have tried a bunch of other games and no other game behaves like that on my system.
Also I should note that I tried teeworlds only on this platform.
I also tried to ask other players, but since I was doing that during gaming, they were often too busy to reply. The few ubuntu users that replied, anyway, didn't have this problem.

As for me, the game is quite frustrating right now (having to quit every x minutes). If you feel this is something you can isolate and correct, feel free to ask me whatever question you need to further investigate.

I guess it can be related to the way Gnome handles the windows priorities/focus. (that way, xubuntu may not apply)

Thx!

Re: Focus problem on Linux/Gnome/Ubuntu

Just to confirm, I have similar problem on Gutsy 64-bit (I mean, mouse detaching from time to time). It could be CompizFusion, (but it's only a guess) as well as it could be Xgl.

***, gDani, have you tried disabling completely screensaver ?

Re: Focus problem on Linux/Gnome/Ubuntu

About mouse problem: happens while running two clients once. Happened to me few times. If in full screen mode you can't turn it off easily (only ctrl+backspace or restart).

Re: Focus problem on Linux/Gnome/Ubuntu

I also had this problem, this happens only with compiz.
On the other hand, when playing with metacity it would sometimes randomly 'minimize' the game and by that shut it down.
Now I'm using Slackware, teewars+metacity is good, but teewars+compiz freezes the mouse every couple of seconds. (I'm using SlackBuild GNOME)
