Topic: Modifying the server and adding bots

Hi there,

First of all thanks for making such an amazing game. We love teeworlds.
We are making a project involving computer games and sonification of game data at the Institute for Musicology and Musicinformatics (IMWI) in Karlsruhe, Germany.
We tried this with other open source software before, and we want to try this out with teeworlds. We believe a face paced multiplayer shooter like teeworlds could give us an amazing musical result (and lots of fun of course!).

We started adding OSC capabilities to the server to send data to other programs, in our case SuperCollider, an audio programming environment. This works and we are developing this further, but we are showing this game at an exhibition and we don't have an internet connection  so we were thinking about bots, so at least some people can play also alone at the exhibition which isn't always very crowded, so at least we have a source for the sounds.

I've read the bots thread and I do agree teeworlds makes a lot more fun when played with persons. Some people mentioned already using bots in their servers, so we would like to know if we could use that mod/code/server or at least get a little help in making this work.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Modifying the server and adding bots

Hello,

I'm sure the game will benefit of your project and personally thank you for doing so.

There already exist few server bots for the last version (SushiTee, did you finish fixing your bots?). Finding someone who would accept to give you his bots source code is another matter. I can't remember of any open-source bot server, for 0.6 or 0.5, and wonder if you will find any.

There are still the open-source zbots on the LordSkelethom's github, but they are still unfinished and under development. Another solution would be to directly ask the sources to the bot developers, e.g. SushiTee.

Feel free to ask here if you have any trouble, the forum is full of people who could help you.

I wish you all the chances for that project,
Dune.

P.S.: As far as sound modification is concerned, you shouldn't have to edit the game sources that much. You'll find all the audio files you need for replacement into the data/audio/ folder.

Re: Modifying the server and adding bots

Hey, thanks for your kind answer.

The idea is also to publish later some result on this project, so teeworlds may be more known in the computer music community :-)

I'll take a look at LordSkelethom's fork. The bots doesn't have to be fancy and intelligent, just move, hook and shoot around. Maybe for a next time the server will be online and I will open the server for testing and recording the results. But for this exhibitions we really need the bots, otherwise will be really boring.

I know changing the audio files is a simple thing, but we do want the sound to be synthesized in real time and react to the movements and actions. It will be very experimental, so the sound won't be very usable for gaming purposes, bt anyway, this is all part of the project and the experiment. So... Let's see how it works.

So, thanks again, I'll take a look at the zbots with my colleague and also be thankful if some other bot programmer might share his/her work, at least for this project.

Dune: no my bots arent fixed yet... i kinda dont feel like fixing them somehow right now xD

im also not sure about sharing them...
