Topic: Music in Teeworlds

What about some Teeworlds soundtracks? There are different situations where it could make sense (menus, warmup, during a game). It is not a new topic, in earlier versions there was already a music in the menus: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjHmKEsXOpA

We've always intended for Teewars to have background music outside the actual gameplay (lobby, end-of-game, possibly during warmups) and it'll be implemented properly at later stage, along with some jingles.
We decided to temporarily take the lobby music out since it was just bloating the size of each release. (2008-02-14 20:42:54

So is there any plan to add music in Teeworlds? Are there some people who could produce some music for Teeworlds?

Re: Music in Teeworlds

Why not playing a loop of the old Teewars music in the menu browser? This one sounds good.
Anyway, I support the idea!

Re: Music in Teeworlds

and what with the ingame music?
i mean... there'll be hundreds of different maps, and i dont want to download an embedded soundtrack for every single map...
and if there'll only be soundtracks in the menu, or in the standart maps, the selfmade maps dont have soundtracks, you'll have to play an song in another window, and then, we can forget that idea.

No music in-game, aside from end-of-game, BennXYZ

Re: Music in Teeworlds

What about... if the game is about to end (time limit) or something.. (Like in Modern Warfare 2, when the game has a timelimit of 1 minute and below left, it plays an "intense" soundtrack, or if someone has 900/1000 points.

Or allow the mapper to implement midi music files smile

"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0djB3Hw … re=related" Something like this if we're losing big_smile But less serious

Not an expert on music, but that'd skyrocket the map download time

As far as MIDI files go, aren't they small?

Re: Music in Teeworlds

Still think the idea of implementing one music per map is crap. I personally don't wanna hear tons of musics I dislike when playing Teeworlds, and I think most of us use external programs to put music when they are playing Teeworlds if they want to do so.
But it would be nice to have a client-sided music when there is few time left or after a GG or things like that.

Re: Music in Teeworlds

This thread isn't meant to discuss of music/sounds embedded in cutsom maps. We are only talking of some music included in Teeworlds.

Re: Music in Teeworlds

Dune, I agree [+1]... but...

For example, I want to make an atmospheric ZOMB map, and have graphics + visuals creepy as possible.

This would be good, and make the map a lot better... wouldn't it? Take a quick listen. They sound nice, and are below 20 KB each.

Scaremare.mid
A lot creepier, but a lot more serious...

Also, a check box setting in "Settings > Sounds > Map music" ... ?

EDIT: Oops, sorry Ubu. I posted this while you posted yours, I guess..

Well, as for menu music, I think that would be a good idea. Perhaps this falls hand in hand with teeworlds themes.. like in Z-Team pack, you could change the server browser. Maybe there should be a setting for music as well, to add your own music. And it would have a few pre-loaded music too smile

Re: Music in Teeworlds

A very important discussion, i have to agree with everybody!

After this, can we implement teeworlds into winamp? I'd like to play teeworlds while listening to music. smile

I agree with you it could be very nice, but most of the time it would be crap, and could increase the download time (well, wouldn't happend with MIDIs).

This discussion is closely linked to the original topic, and looks interesting; it could be nice to split it into two different topics if people think this is going too much offtopic.

Winamp seems to be 11MB (source: http://www.winamp.com/media-player/en).
Teeworlds isn't even 1MB...

Re: Music in Teeworlds

There are several small music player libs that can play many formats like the Bass DLL. So it wouldn't be hard to implement a ingame music player with your music in a folder or whatever. Maybe someone trying this out :>

Yep, there could be a tab in settings where you could choose which music load while browsing (instead of just one) and it could be stored in "data/music" as .midi file (as alias said, it has a very small size). This way teeworlds would be even more customizable, wouldn't it?

Re: Music in Teeworlds

Come on, the idea of this thread isn't to build a media player into Teeworlds. The idea is to have some music that fit the game.

Another message from teetow that I have found:

teetow wrote:

Well, we don't really have any need for externally produced music at the moment, as I'll be writing the score for the game. We just haven't prioritized music this early into the production.
Having said that, some of your tunes were quite nice, and if you don't have anything better to do, you could always play around with something similar to the Teewars style:

Basically, I'm aiming for something that's playful, melodic and brings a sense of danger and speed -- and it definitely needs guitars. Think "Mexican Nintendo Rock." (2008-02-22 03:02:24)

Basically I'd love to hear some theme based teeworlds music (e.g South American style music for the jungle theme). But I am not sure if it suits that well ... I'd rather test if some atmospheric sound loops support the game play experience (e.g. some bird sounds for the grass theme, cicada chirrs for the desert theme or some jungle sounds for the jungle)

Re: Music in Teeworlds

Landil, considering your sounds idea: How about the editor implements sounds and music through the default tilesets used? For example, if you use the jungle tileset and doodads, it would come up with optional sound effects, such as:
- Rain
- Birds Chirping
- Bugs??
- Drums smile

Re: Music in Teeworlds

I like the idea of having some teeworlds specific themes which play during the battles. But these themes shouldn´t  be specific only to one graphic style like jungle or grass. They should be more like overall themes just fitting to the gameplay. Maybe even change according to how you play like in the game REZ.

Re: Music in Teeworlds

The idea of having the choice to choose what background sounds you hear while playing a map is quite appealing. It shouldn't distract the player though, obviously, but it does give some more excitement when the music is faster paced and gives more adrenaline. Good luck on finding the right music. Who would take charge of making this music? Someone on the dev team, or the community?

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Since this game is open source everyone can create stuff for it. So feel free to compose nice tunes for teeworlds although it doesn t mean that the tunes become official.

Well just for info the menu_music from 0.2.0 was made by teetow the teeworlds guru so maybe contact him about the music

Re: Music in Teeworlds

Really i think they should just put in some enterjetic fast paced Song for the title menu and skip all this ingame music crap so that we can carry on and I Can listen to some music ingame cuz i searched this topic and I think i was banned for not searching the topic before
