if yes, you were just a spectator and not ingame. to choose a team press "Esc" and click "Join Blue | Red"

Welcome to Teeworlds, ShadowAngel! I'm adding some more to what Lanta said.

The very most servers on Teeworlds has at least one administrator. The administrators may kick, ban, change map etc. on their own, without any special permissions from anyone. It's their server, and therefor they can decide over it. That means yes, you can be banned without a reason.

Unfortunately, some servers are used for 1on1-matches. That means there are two players who play against each other. When you come, they'll just start a kickvote against you, and since they're two, and you're one, you will lose the vote, and get banned.

If you have Teeworlds 0.5.2 you can play on almost all servers, except the minority of servers running 0.4.3. To make sure all servers in the list are playable, check the box "Current version" at the right in the server browser.
