Topic: [HELP] Are there any solutions for a high ping?

Will there be something to counteract this problem? hmm I've been playing for a year now, and spent lots of time playing this game. *was addicted* But the problem I'm always facing in most public servers is my high ping. I am aware that this is because my connection to the server isn't great. (Probably due to the fact I'm in North America, far from most servers.)

I'll try my best to get more Americans to come and play/host servers, but it seems there isn't much I can do.

Would a dedicated server (like a main server for people to play on) be possible? Or global advertising? I only know of one income that comes in for Teeworlds (that being donations) and so it seems unlikely.

I have actually thought of going to some place in Europe to see what it's like to play with low ping against other players, while on a vacation. tongue But that seems pretty rash just for a game.

I'm sorry for you, but I think that a dedicated server (if it is in Europe),
also would have a high ping (cause it is in Europe). sad

Play on brazilian servers, dude. Filter your server list by ping, and you will see all possible servers in your area.

Why would you play on european servers? It doesn't even make sense because of the timeshift. The best action in teeworlds occurs at 8-10 pm CEST.

But all the good players are mostly European.

And last year, I would play hours upon hours playing, for that "best action" from the best players.

lolwut

I'm in America, and Brazillian servers give more ping then German.

Also, I find no problem with the timeshit. I played with Magnet today (omg i luve him) when it was 5 PM here. D:

Europeans are the worst players ever

i.e ubuntu

Ex-King of Teeworlds

all in all ... its the f***ing connection from US to EU .. same as playing from germany on a server located in china -> 300 ms ping and more...

Remember me? Questions? Just leave a message, I will respond within 72 hrs!

I hope something can be done about this.

I REALLY love this game.

North american myself I face the same problems as you do.

I think the major reason for the high pings is that most servers are home-hosted, as far as I know, there are currently no major gaming hosting companies that offer this game. On some other games I can ping less than 100 on a EU server, such thing never happened for me on Teeworlds. But one thing is sure, even at high ping I think the game is still very playable, under 150 for me is fine.

If you are interested, I am currently hosting a 1on1 server (the only duel server for NA), and if you want you can PM me and ill give you some IRC info where we do pickups sometimes.

And most of the time your server(A server you would make) has a lot lower ping.

...There will be blood...

.

Very few European servers are home hosted. Most are on dedicated servers in high connectivity datacenters.

The only solution I see to the US problem is to have some American players gather, get a dedicated server and put up a few TW servers on it. I think coordination and motivation are the two key points smile.

Not all game compute the ping value the same. It is merely an indicator which has a meaning only relatively to other players in the same game (and does not take packet loss into account).
