Just letting susceptible developers know, I have developed the shield mod yesterday with Rajh and it is working. It still needs tweaking and I will probably need some tests tonight for balance and general feedback.
Because it was way too hard to use it as a weapon AND requiring to fire (really very hard), the shield is currently active when you select it.
This is how I will make it work (needs tweaking):
- shield starts with 10 in energy points (= ammos)
- every 0,2s with shield active, it looses 1 energy point. You can keep the shield active 2s
- when shield has 0 energy, auto-switch to last weapon
- full regeneration takes 4s (shield regenerates only when other weapons are active, exactly the opposite as the pistol)
- if the shield has been emptied, you can take the shield only if it has at least 5 energy points.
Powers (working)
- reflects lasers to the direction shield bearer is currently aiming
- angle ~90° (already hard to use)
- if you press fire while having the shield, it sends a discharge throw the hook of any player hooking you at the time, if they are in the direction you're aiming... hook gets retracted and player gets sent back a bit. It works even if many players are hooking you, as long as their hook goes through the shield when you fire. This special power is likely to change and will require extra shield energy (probably 3 energy points).
I have made several tests already and I'm not sure how well it will go. It is extremely hard to use because you have to hook behind you, up, down, to move properly, leaving your back open and shield useless. Using the shield will require a lot of skill.
Btw my mod supports vanilla and instagib (based on spl0k's instagib patch used on HuH).
