Perhaps you can respect the XDG (Freedesktop) recommandation, configurations files must be under ${HOME}/.config./${SOFTWARE}/ ( and not ${HOME]/.teeworlds )

Make that an option in that case. I like it in $HOME/.teeworlds

IMHO this should be a built-time option. So it can be made to fit your distro.
