Yes, quite ok, but this is the wrong section. It should be in content other, because this is fan art.

1. Wrong section.
2. Read the documentation.
3. The answer is in the documentation, but if you really for some strange reason can't find it, use the search function before posting. It's very likely that other people have asked your question before.

Saved scores are not implemented in vanilla teeworlds. This means you need to get a mod that supports this feature. Unfortunately I don't know which mods do so.

@Skorpion: I guess you should not be adding exclamation marks and things like that, if they are not in the original text.

It would of course be possible if there was a bug in the server which can be exploited to give the user laser. MAybe this is the case here.

You can try enabling texture compression and disabling quality textures, but I doubt it will help much. fsaa samples is anti-aliasing, and if it's set to 0, it's deactivated which means you should get the best performance.

What are your system specifications (processor, graphics card, OS, etc.)?

Try opening the console (just press "f1" when teeworlds is running) and type

cl_showfps 1

Now when playing you should see your frames per second at the top right corner. With vsync activated it should be something like 60 or 75 (It's actually the refreshrate of your screen), if the game runs smooth. How many fps do you get?

In what way do you think the grenade launcher is overpowered? I personally think that the game is really balanced at the moment. Shotgun and grenade launcher are equally strong in my opinin, they serve a different purpose of course. The laser is a bit above both of them, but needs better aiming and is not placed on the maps as often as the other weapons. As just said, it's really balanced in my opinion...

You are saying that any high level game shows it is overpowered. Just of which high level games are you speaking? A can not say I have ever seen you ingame. The games I play don't show the gl being overpowered at all.

You say we should tell you why the gl should not be weakened, but you don't give any reason for weakening it (other then saying "it's too strong") yourself.

If you make some modifications to your servers, they must not run the official gametypes, otherwise they will be banned from the masters. This is why I suggest they should run the pure official gametypes.

Maybe for other mods, custom maps are usefull but for competetive vanilla, they are certainly not.

well your not false. But the only think i get if i read your comment is that i havent got a chance against ESL.
But that the ... does ESL cares about Teeworlds?

1. You should not base your league on a mod, it should use the official gametypes.
2. You should let the people play on the official maps.
3. I never said you don't have a chance against ESL but that ESL has a much better chance of getting successful if you contribute to it then your project will ever have. Your project might succeed, but if you work with ESL it will be much easier.

Teeworlds does use python to some extent. some source files, like the protocol are created with python. However, in the end, the sourcecode is written completely in c/c++ which means you should also code in c/c++.

Just to throw in my opinion:

You created a great tool with with this envelope previewing stuff. This is something that should definitely become official.

You said that you want to do something for tw. You need to ask yourself "In what way can I help this beautiful game?". The answer does surely not lie in creating tools like aimbots, radar systems or rainbow clients which give an unfair advantage over other players or simply annoy or disturb others. The much better idea is creating usefull things for the official client, and with your tool, you have already done so.

I understand you feel a bit annoyed after all these negative posts, but please don't let that be the reason for this wonderfull tool not being implemented. After all, we all (including you) just want to make this game better (At least that's what I think...). And you now have the chance to contribute to this game in a great way, so I encourage you to take that chance.

1. We can't tell yet if it will be implemented, but from my point of view there is not much that speaks against it.
2. It's done when it's done.

Theolol: Aren't there bettwer ways of contributing to teeworlds? I mean, it's your decision, but that's kinda useless I think....

I know what you meant, and of course this is the best way to improve. However, there are some basic concepts that should be clear before even starting with professional ctf mapping. I just wanted to give you this hint. I think many people will be happy to test and analize your maps and give you (positiv) criticism smile

For ctf maps: take a closer look at the official maps, like ctf2, ctf3, or some really good community maps like ctf_lava. They all have several things in common, here are 2 of them:

  • very good pickup placement, meaning it is very balanced in that sense

  • very fluent, but still unique movement

Try to get the feeling of those maps, and try to create something that has a similar feeling, but still is different in some ways, to make it unique. This thread also offers a very nice explanation of how good ctf maps work, it refers to ctf2. I think you can learn a lot there.

I actually had the same problem and went back to playing in fullscreen (even though this means I need to quit teeworlds everytime I need to do something on my desktop...). I hope minimizing on the mac will work at some point of time in the future... I did some research on that myself, and I found out it's a bug in sdl. It will probably be fixed with sdl1.3, but it's still a long time untill that is released....

To calm this discussion down a bit: To be an official mapper means more than just creating beautiful maps, with nice details and stuff. The most important and hard task with being an official mapper is creating maps that have a very nice gameplay. That means nice movement, good placement of pickups, interesting tactical things for ctf/tdm/1on1 games. Only a very skilled mapper can reach all these things while making the map playable for the low level scene, too.

And just to tell you, even the official mappers are not always able to achieve all this, look at ctf6 e.g.

This map here looks quite nice, but has some problems with pickup placement and movement. So In my eyes, Theolol is not yet ready to be an official mapper. You need more experience when it comes to gameplay and creating competitive maps (and for this, I think, at least a certain amount of skill is necessary in teeworlds, so you can move fast).

Why create a new project, if there is already a good one out? ESL has everything necessary for tournaments, leagues, leaders, prizes, whatever you want. It just needs to be used, and for that advertisement and good/professional admins are needed.

On the other hand, for creating an own project, you would need to create all these tools from the start. You need to build a website, you need to get good admins, you need to advertise. I agree that this can work. I pointed out "funwar" earlier. Actually I happen to be one of the former admins of fun war and I can tell you that it's a whole lot of work to do all this stuff, so if you want to go serious with that, be ready for a very time consuming job.

I really think that helping ESL would be a lot easier and would give a much greater benefit in a shorter time, but I don't want to dissuade you from you original plan.

Do you have anything planned already? How is the website going to work? Do you have admins already? Do you have a plan on how to make your league popular with tw players and clans (from low to high level). Do you have any ideas about which tournaments you would organize, which leaders etc.? If you can not answer these questions, I'd suggest you make up your mind about all this stuff and get some competent people before trying to present your project here. You should definitely not start with absolutely nothing here.

Again, I don't want to discourage you, it's just my experience that tells me that this project is not very well prepared and is very likely to fail.

The map actually looks quite nice. It has a lot of similarities with the official dm maps like dm2 or dm7. In m eyes, it could go along with them as dm10 or whatever in the next release. However, the question is rather: Do we need another big dm map, that is not very interesting for serious and more high-level games? I actually don't think so. dm2, dm6 and dm7 server that purpose perfectly, and I think that is enough. Still your map is really nice! Maybe you could try working on a ctf or tdm map. Chances are a lot better for those to get official. However, It will be a lot more challenging, because you need to work harder on movement and pickup placement, but you seem to be a good mapper, so I encourage you to take that challenge!

You know, there have been several attempts to leagues for teeworlds (and it's actually not too long ago that I gave almost exactly this answer in a similar thread). In fact by now, all of these attempts simply failed. The reasons were either that the community was not interested enough, or that the admins went inactive after some time. One of the more successful projects was fun war, which was able to held some tournaments, but it died after some time, just like the other projects did.

I think the general problem with leagues for teeworlds is, that there are just not enough clans, which are able to play on a equal and decent level. Take the vanilla ctf scene for example, there are maybe 6 clans out there at the moment, that I would call professional or on the edge to professional. I don't know how this is in instagib, but I doubt it's much better.

In order to make a project like this successful, it needs to be official in my eyes. Otherwise just too many people would not care about it. This is also the reason why I think that the most promising league is still ESL. Teeworlds is on the ESL, but most people are not very active there, because the admins don't seem to be so competent. If you really want to take the initiative and work so tournaments can be hold, try helping those guys, maybe you could do some advertisement for ESL here on the forum or something like that.

I don't want to frustrate you, but I really doubt that your own project would be successful. ESL on the other hand has all the tools needed ready to be used, and it's kind of official. So I advise you to help there.

freetype 2 is needed.

(68 replies, posted in News)

The linux binaries are not present. Either you forgot to upload them, or something else went wrong. Also it IS possible to use 0.6.1 on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. You need to install freetype manually for that though, as it is not shipped with the OS by default anymore.

I'm sorry if I was insulting you, alias. I was not meaning to do so. It's just a bit annoying that many people post their fan art in content graphics while the subheading clearly says not to do so. But I guess it's not that obvious because earlier all graphics stuff was put in content graphics...
So again, I apologize for being harsh smile.

Yes, this is fan art and should be in content other. It seems most people are too dumb to even read the subheadings for the forum sections....
